- Support the ongoing implementation and maintenance of company-wide Health and Safety programs to improve reliability and content.
- Accountable for the development and effective implementation of Health and Safety programs for all.
- Maintain accurate and complete records that meet regulatory requirements.
- Conduct audits on accident / incident reporting and implement action plans for corrective action.
- Responsible for Health and Safety data management including trend analysis and reporting of safety performance to all levels of the organization.
- Responsible for the implementation of Certificate of Recognition Program (COR).
- Effectively manages resources and applicable budgets.
- Joint Health and Safety Committee participation and maintenance.
- Anticipate, identify, and evaluate hazardous conditions and practices through work site knowledge, employee interaction and work site inspections.
- Provide recommendations for correcting safety hazards and unsafe work practices.
- Maintain up to date knowledge in the field of Health and Safety with particular emphasis on emerging safety trends, methods and practices affecting our industry/operations.
- Develop and deliver various employee Health and Safety training programs.
- 3-5 years’ experience in a progressively senior health and safety role; if your experience includes “fleet safety and compliance experience” it will act as an asset.
- Completion of post-secondary education from a recognized Occupational Health and Safety program or an equivalent combination of experience and training.
- CRSP designation or in the process of certification is an asset.
- Strong legislative expertise with respect to MOL and OHSA.
- Experience managing staff and directing activities toward safety objectives/goals.
- Experience working with management in both unionized and non-unionized environments.
- Experience with safety committees regarding auditing, training, and implementing best practices.
- Participation in Safety Groups.
- Certificate of Recognition (COR) Program auditor/implementation experience is an asset.
- Proven track record in designing and delivering safety training; great presentation skills.
- Excellent command of the English language (both verbal and written).
- Strong proficiency in MS Office Suite (particularly Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
- Experience in the waste industry, transportation or manufacturing are definite assets.
- This position may be based out of the Smiths Falls site with frequent travel to our other Ontario sites and infrequent travel to Manitoba and Saskatchewan; flexibility to travel is a requirement for this position
