- Develops strategy, and forecasts, plans, executes and reports on the safe and efficient coordination of control centre operations - 365 days/year and 24 hours a day - including planned, reactive and emergency control operations.
- Monitors the safe and reliable operation and control of distribution system with the provincial transmitter (HONI) and bulk system operator (IESO), perimeter utilities, other agencies, and large customers.
- Manages centralized inbound call centre and dispatch function for all power system related activities to validate effective event work execution through prioritization, scheduling and logistics.
- Provides technical guidance and support to leadership to guarantee the safe, reliable distribution of power to customers.
- Liaises with internal and external customers on technical and operational issues.
- Participates in organizational and divisional projects that enhance and continuously improve work practices to advance management and technology systems and improve sustainability and productivity.
- Collaborates with Grid Operations Engineering, Grid Response, and Emergency Management leadership to manage response to system events, incidents, and major outages.
- Collaborates with Grid Operations Engineering, Energy Centre, and IT teams on operational technology and grid modernization projects.
- Manages annual budget, plans, scorecards and measures consistent with corporate, divisional and departmental goals.
- Oversees that proper safety controls (e.g. work protection) are in place to enable planned and emergency work to be executed safely by the field staff.
- Conducts incident investigations and root cause analysis (proactive and reactive) including development and implementation of associated action plans to continually drive EHS performance.
- Maintains and enhances apprenticeship program for control centre resources, guaranteeing training and development programs are executed in a timely and quality manner.
- Manages terms and conditions for the provision of third-party services to ensure vendors meet or exceed established performance
- Undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Technology diploma with equivalent demonstrated experience
- Ten (10) years professional level experience in utility planning, design, operations, or execution.
- Minimum five (5) years progressive supervisory leadership experience.
- Minimum three (3) years experience in event management or control room operations
- Registered Engineer in the province of Ontario (P.Eng.) or Certified Electrical Technologist (CET)
- Graduate degree in business or engineering (preferred)
- Mearie Electrical Operator Certificate (preferred)
- Knowledge of utility grid operations, grid control room operations, emergency management and execution
- Knowledge of 24/7 work management processes for response and planned work functions
- Demonstrated knowledge of applicable work practices, procedures and safety requirements
- Knowledge of Utility Work Protection Code
- Knowledge of North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) rules for bulk energy systems
- Knowledge of risk management principles
- Advanced knowledge of distribution systems, including automation technologies
- Awareness of the electricity industry changes and the ability to predict trends
- Knowledge of design and foundations of different electrical systems (e.g. URD, CRD/CLD, radial loop and secondary mesh network)
- Knowledge of provincial transmission and operator functionality
