- Enhancing and coordinating a Sheridan-wide accessibility planning and compliance framework to implement AODA requirements and ensure compliance with AODA legislation, in consultation with key partners.
- Coordinating the development of appropriate resources, communications, training, education and awareness programs to support Sheridan's AODA planning and compliance framework.
- Leading initiatives to sustain an inclusive and welcoming work environment; conducting needs analyses, facilitating and overseeing the development of programs, plans, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines with respect to accessibility, equity and inclusion across Sheridan, including legislated requirements.
- Engaging the Sheridan community in areas of accessibility, equity and inclusion; integrating the principles into Sheridan's business objectives and culture.
- Advising on requirements and methods of incorporating requirements into Sheridan's strategic planning processes and budgets.
- Ensuring organizational compliance with legislation (Human Rights Code, AODA) including as changes and additions are made by the relevant external agencies/providers; understands applicable laws, regulations and government requirements and their impact on the organization.
- Developing, coordinating and facilitating educational awareness initiatives, relevant to maintaining a respectful and supportive workplace through accessibility, equity and inclusion initiatives. This includes employee participation, communication strategy, community relations, and the identification, prevention and removal of barriers.
- Ensuring that the appropriate communication processes are in place to provide for the prompt and equitable resolution of AODA feedback and inquiries from Sheridan employees, students and the public.
- Overseeing transactional metrics of the accessibility and inclusion portfolio area and contributing to the broader CEI metrics that measure progress on legislative requirements, organizational and CEI strategic priorities.
- Providing advice and guidance and serving as a resource to various constituents; providing clients with tools, resources, skills and supports so they embed “Accessibility and Inclusion” in their areas (i.e. cultural shift so accessibility and inclusion is considered by all roles).
- Providing a support function for the implementation of individual workplace accommodation plans for existing employees with disabilities who may require modifications to the built environment, the procurement of technology, assistive devices, equipment, software or other accommodations.
- Providing support and consultation to the HR Talent Acquisition team in the assessment and implementation of accommodation requests for job applicants with disabilities and ensuring accessible employment practices are followed in the recruitment, assessment or selection processes.
- Fostering and leveraging strong working relationships and partnerships with internal and external partners to advance accessibility and inclusion initiatives; represents Sheridan at external meetings, conferences etc.
- Performing other duties as assigned
- 4-year bachelor's degree or a 3-year degree and post graduate certificate in Social Sciences or a related field.
- 5-years experience developing and implementing cultural change management initiatives in areas of accessibility, equity and inclusion.(equivalencies to be considered)
- Must have knowledge of accessibility, equity and inclusion issues and practices, including organization reviews, development and implementation of compliance obligations.
- Must have knowledge of, and demonstrated expertise in understanding and working with, the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act and all applicable Standards, the Ontario Human Rights Code and the Duty to Accommodate; and the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms as it pertains to ensuring protection under the law for persons with disabilities.
- Must have experience working in a matrix environment, building/managing relationships with senior leaders, preferably in a post-secondary setting.
- Must have demonstrated experience in developing targeted education and awareness programs.
- Direct experience working with marginalized populations.
- Must have experience leading projects and producing comprehensive reports.
