Dalhousie Athletics and Recreation takes a holistic approach to enhancing the Dalhousian experience by creating and sharing ways to engage and connect students through physical activity and wellness, to contribute to student success. Reporting to the Executive Director, Athletics and Recreation, the Senior Manager, Marketing, Communications & Events provides strategic vision and leadership in marketing, communications and event management for the Department of Athletics and Recreation.
Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and execute marketing, communications and promotions plans that leverage current strategies to support Athletics & Recreation programming, including but not limited to: varsity athletics, club sports, intramurals, recreational programming, camps and events.
  • Build and communicate a clearly defined Dalhousie Tigers brand to stakeholders, ensuring positioning, value proposition and target audience is always top-of-mind. Ensure University and departmental brand standards are understood, maintained and consistently executed.
  • Oversee the management and administration of social and digital channels directly related to Athletics & Recreation.
  • Manage all aspects of Dalhousie's Athletics & Recreation annual events including the Dal Golf Classic, Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony, Academic All-Canadian Celebration, and oversees varsity game management and other special events and promotions for the Department.
  • Lead the creation and distribution of marketing materials including posters, brochures, videos, advertisements and other types of print and online media to promote teams and events.
  • Directs two full-time employees and 10 to 20 part-time student staff who assist with communications efforts for the unit.
NoteDue to operational requirements, the successful applicant is required to work in-person on campus.
Required Qualifications
  • Undergraduate degree in business, communications and/or marketing with approximately five to seven years' progressive experience in marketing or communications (or an equivalent combination of training and experience).
  • Exceptional and oral/written communication skills.
  • Proven strong interpersonal and leadership skills evidenced by significant experience in a collaborative approach, managing conflict in a proactive and supportive manner with an authentic and transparent leadership style.
  • Experience in communications planning and the implementation of communications plans. Extensive knowledge of best practices when using a variety of social media platforms.
  • Exceptional problem-solving and project management skills with proven ability to manage high degrees of complexity and sensitivity.
  • Demonstrated intercultural competence and ability to successfully exercise an inclusive and diversity lens when approaching one's work and professional conduct.
Assets
  • Experience in a post-secondary environment with a focus on athletics and recreation.
  • Experience working in amateur or professional sport.
