The incumbent will report directly to the Employee and Labour Relations Manager and the Employee & Labour Relations Business Partner for Western Canada. The successful individual will also work with our Shared HR services center as well as the market Human Resources Managers and payroll administrators. Reaching out to internal and external stakeholders and resources to obtain needed information and to complete tasks will be an expectation.Summary: * Safety Culture: Demonstrate a commitment to communicating, improving and adhering to safety policies in all work environments and areas
- Academic Research: Gather, consolidate, review and analyze Labour and Employee Relations data, both internal and external
- Communication: Present research findings both verbally and in writing
- Vision: Understand current trends in Labour and Employee Relations and apply this knowledge to identify opportunities for growth and change.
- Other: Perform all other duties as required.
- Assist with preparation for, and possibly participate in collective bargaining.
- Research and analyze wages and benefits to help lead negotiator prepare bargaining recommendations
- Research and prepare rate comparisons including an analysis of internal and external/competitor rates.
- Prepare the costing model for negotiations and further develop the existing model.
- Coordinate the preparation of the mandate book in conjunction with other members of the applicable business
- Includes preparing demographic information
- Summarizing previous collective agreement and highlights, where relevant, from the last round of bargaining
- Analyzing competitive landscape
- Summarizing financial data provided by the operation
- Summarizing risk and contingency plans where applicable
- Take detailed notes in bargaining sessions
- Assist with drafting the agenda, counter offers and the Memorandum of Agreement with direction from the lead negotiator/bargaining committee.
- Track monthly CPI changes. Use this information to update graphs comparing Lafarge wage increases to CPI.
- Assist in interpretation and preparation of collective agreement summaries and submit to the ABS for payroll purposes.
- Review and draft the collective agreements
- Assist in preparation for Arbitrations and possibly attend as an observer
- Assist with tracking of arbitrations, grievances and Human Rights claims as needed.
- Assist with investigations
- May include conducting interviews, producing final report and providing recommendations
- Assist in the review of employee benefit plans and preparation of recommendations.
- Handle employee relations' issues as assigned.
- Take ownership of all projects and tasks assigned.
- General Administrative Responsibilities
- Work with MyLife and the Shared Services Center (ABS) Teams to gather and analyze employee data.
- Track Grievances, Discipline, and other Employee Matters
- 3rd or 4th year Commerce student, preferably majoring in HR Management with a focus on Labour relations, who also has strong accounting and/or finance capabilities
- Experience in Labour Relations or Human Resources is an asset but is not required
- Strong understanding of Canadian Labour and Employment laws in the Western Provinces or ability to learn quickly
- Ability to work effectively on individual administrative tasks
- Ability to work with limited supervision but capable of asking for help when needed
- A preference for working with numbers

- Advanced skills working with MS Excel and Word and strong overall computer skills
