Values of Providence Care.The Pharmacy Technician will work to the full scope of practice as described within the National Association of Pharmacy Regulatory Authorities (NAPRA) Model Standards of Practice for Canadian Pharmacy Technicians to support the Pharmacist and ensure the safe and accurate distribution of pharmaceuticals in the Hospital.The Pharmacy Technician is accountable to the Ontario College of Pharmacists (OCP) and to Providence Care for his/her professional service to the clients/patients.Education & Experience:
  • Current unrestricted registration with the Ontario College of Pharmacists, Registered Pharmacy Technician (R.Ph.T.)
  • Experience working in a hospital pharmacy, preferred
Position Responsibilities
  • Prepare new and refill individual client/patient orders and prescriptions (counting, pouring, weighing, measuring, mixing, repackaging, labelling) in accordance with organization and departmental policy and procedure
  • Distribute narcotics, controlled drugs and targeted substances (NCDs) to client/patient care areas according to policy
  • Perform sterile product preparation in accordance with departmental policy, NAPRA and OCP.
  • Participate in admission medication reconciliation; compile the Best Possible Medication History (BPMH) through client/patient or family interview and review of appropriate client/patient medication history information sources, and document the home medication list in the client’s/patient’s electronic patient record
  • Perform inventory and purchasing functions including ordering and receiving drugs from vendors, perpetual inventory management, expired product returns, stock rotation, annual physical inventory count and financial reporting
  • Perform clerical functions and delivery of medications associated with the Pharmacy department
