- Ensure the safe, reliable, and cost-effective operation of AltaLink’s HVDC assets.
- Perform ongoing routine maintenance and troubleshooting on the HVDC equipment/ systems Protection and control systems relays, PLCs, SCADA, HMIs etc. Primary equipment transformers, breakers, filters, valves.
- Perform preventative, corrective and emergency maintenance on numerous auxiliary systems motor controls, switch gear, valve cooling systems, auxiliary power system etc.
- Perform inspections and condition monitoring on converter station facilities and equipment.
- Participate in root cause and failure mode investigations on abnormal equipment operations or failures.
- Coordinate operations, clearances, outages and work activities with AltaLink System Control.
- Center Plan and coordinate work of third-party service providers and equipment OEMs.
- Execute switching and hold permissions from ACC.
- Coordinate on-site activities including contractor work.
- Support warranty claim process.
- Manage onsite HVDC spares inventories, tools and equipment.
- Update and maintain documentation for safety practices, work methods, work procedures, training manuals and emergency restoration plans.
- Ensure all site documentation is kept up to date.
- Maintain a competency development process to sustain HVDC technology skills.
- Diploma in Electrical or Instrumentation Engineering Technology.
- Minimum 7 years electric utility experience or industrial plant experience.
- Protection & Control experience/background is an asset.
- Prior HVDC experience would be advantageous.
- Proven ability/experience in the above noted responsibilities.
- Experience in installation, testing and maintenance of P&C, SCADA, PLC and other auxiliary systems.
- Experience in installation, testing and maintenance of high voltage station equipment including transformers, circuit breakers and instrument transformers.
- Preference given to someone qualified as Utility disciple work leader and qualified to perform switching and receive/authorize permission to work in a substation.
- Familiar with use of SAP and MS Office applications (Excel, Word etc.).
- Able to work as part of a small team with minimal supervision.
- Availability for on call 24/7 coverage.
- Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to write reports, manuals, and procedures.
- Flexible with the ability to positively influence others, and develop strong internal and external relationships.
- Effective interpersonal skills to interface with internal partners to achieve positive customer outcomes.
- Self-driven with demonstrated initiative to create work projects.
- A strong desire to learn.
- Valid class 5 driver’s license.
- Proven track record of attendance and performance.
