Post-Doctoral Fellow - Nucleic Acid ChemistryTracking Code: req1058Faculty of ScienceNumber of Positions: 1Appointment Type: Limited TermSalary Grade: Administered in accordance with the Collective AgreementPosting Date: March 21, 2024Closing Date: June 30, 2024The Faculty of Science at Ontario Tech University has an opening for a Postdoctoral Fellow (PDF) in the area of Chemical Biology, with a special focus in Nucleic Acid Chemistry and Biology. The title of the project is “Synthesis and Evaluation of Folate-Labeled RNAs”. The position is offered for 18 months, preferably starting in September 2024, subject to funding approval, and may be extended contingent upon research performance.Responsibilities/Accountabilities:
  • The candidate will synthesize phosphoramidites, and use solid-phase RNA synthesis to synthesize novel folatelabeled RNAs for gene silencing in kidney cells
  • The candidate will HPLC purify oligonucleotides, and use mass spectrometry, circular dichroism, and UVmonitored thermal denaturation analysis to characterize the oligonucleotides
Required Education:
  • PhD in Chemistry, Chemical Biology or a related field
Required Experience:
  • Experience with organic chemistry, phosphoramidite synthesis, and solid-phase oligonucleotide synthesis
  • Experience with HPLC
  • Understanding and experience with in vitro cell lines and PCR would be an asset
