Keep Edmonton's streets clean and safe by operating and maintaining our fleet of street sweepers. You'll be a vital part of our team, ensuring roadways, lanes, and bike paths are clear, while also performing essential maintenance and contributing to our environmental programs.What will you do?
  • Operate and care for Street Sweeper engaged in sweeping of roadways, lanes and bike lanes
  • May operate other various types of equipment as required
  • Perform daily inspection of equipment and report deficiencies
  • Safely operate the assigned equipment following the occupational hazards applicable to the work
  • During periods when equipment operator work is not required, perform other duties which may include but are not limited to truck driving, litter control, manual sweeping, hauling, potholes, various labouring duties, etc
  • All work will be performed in accordance with the Branch's Occupational Health and Safety Program and Enviso Environmental Program - ISO 14001
  • Perform other related duties as required
  • Conduct daily maintenance on equipment, such as cleaning and/or greasing according to manufacturer or City maintenance schedules
  • Complete paperwork and reports, such as defect slips, manifest logs, and safety and damage reports
  • Conduct work in a manner that complies with the requirements set out in the City's Environmental Management System (EMS)
Qualifications
  • Completion of Grade 10
  • Minimum of 1 years experience operating Street Sweeper
  • City of Edmonton trained and passed on Street Sweeper
Skills required for Success:
  • Knowledge of heavy equipment operation, maintenance and repair.
  • Knowledge of the PARS Operating Procedures and SOP’s
  • Knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions related to the maintenance operation
  • Demonstrated experience with implementing safety practices and procedures
  • Possession of excellent communication skills (written and verbal), as well as analytical and problem solving skills
  • Considerable knowledge of job tasks, practices and rules of the safe operation of the assigned equipment
  • Ability to understand and effectively carry out oral and written instructions and prepare simple work records
  • Ability to operate equipment skillfully, safely and in conformance with applicable laws and / or regulations
  • Ability to work and make decisions and work in an independent manner
  • Adaptable to changing priorities, whether because of managerial direction or weather dependency

Conditions of Employment:
  • Compliance with the City of Edmonton's safety standards for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is a requirement for this position
  • Compliance with the City of Edmonton's Code of Practice for Respiratory Protective Equipment (including medical monitoring and being clean-shaven for proper equipment fit) is a requirement for this position
  • Valid Alberta Class 3 driver's licence (or provincial equivalent) with Air Brake endorsement. Obtaining and maintaining a City Driver's permit is a requirement of this position
Work Environment:
  • Ability to work nights (this position is solely night work for the duration of the positions term)
  • Weekend work is a requirement (this is not a Mon-Fri position)
  • Ability to work at various locations around the City, including areas that may not be reachable by public transit and satellite locations from trailers that will move throughout the season
  • Physical ability and manual dexterity to perform the duties assigned to the class, specifically in the presence of various weather and environmental conditions such as dust and noise
