As the Water Treatment Technical Director, you will lead projects in the Western Canada (WC) Region and support internal Project Managers, throughout the GHD Enterprise, in all aspects of project delivery and business development with a primary focus on building a water treatment practice in WC and coordinating the Technical team to complete the task; control the design path, tackle problems, and hold responsibility for the design. You will also own the contract and construction administration team through construction to achieve the final result.Our vision is to ensure energy, water and urbanisation are made sustainable for generations to come.   • Development of a water treatment practice in WC.
  • Liaise and support the North American Water Treatment Team
  • Work closely with Project Managers on all major project functions, with a primary focus on leading the technical project team
  • Coordinate technical team leads of the different design disciplines
  • Develop or verify the technical scope of a project
  • Manage project budget and schedule
  • Supervise the engineering schedule in collaboration with the Project Manager and design discipline leads
  • Lead design coordination meetings and address critical issues that impact external partners
  • Work closely with the engineering group to facilitate decision-making related to design, the choice of process and equipment and day-to-day problems
  • Ensure the client's requirements including specifications and standards are integrated into the project
  • Ensure quality controls processes are being followed
  • Mentor and develop junior staff
  • Partner with the Project Manager the budget and schedule on a regular basis, identifying gaps and providing solutions to achieving the scope, budget and schedule requirements
  • Serve as liaison between the site and engineering disciplines during construction and oversee the review of shop drawings
What you will bring to the team:
  • Bachelor's (B.Sc.) degree or equivalent from a recognized college or university
  • Minimum of 20+ years' of broad and extensive technical, administrative and project experience
  • Technical specialist in water treatment and assessment and design of water treatment and wastewater treatment plants, pump stations and linear infrastructure (sewers and force-mains).
  • Experience in leading the design delivery for larger, multi-discipline projects within the Water Service Lines.
  • Experience in Water/Wastewater Treatment, Solid Waste, or Transportation Infrastructure industries, either for private or public clients, is considered an asset
  • Knowledge of scheduling software and engineering, capital cost estimating techniques and various construction contracting strategy's is a definite asset
  • The ability to deal with uncertainty, changing and multiple priorities
  • Strong leadership, team building and mentoring skills
