The Child and Youth Worker (CYW) functions as a valuable member of the interdisciplinary team and provides care to children and youth with complex mental health issues primarily within the acute, inpatient setting. Solid knowledge and skills include, but are not limited to establishment of effective therapeutic relationships, utilization of developmentally appropriate approaches, assessment of mental status, crisis intervention, and implementation and evaluation of various therapeutic interventions. The CYW offers support, education, and coaching to children, youth and their families.QualificationsDiploma in Child and Youth Counseling or Degree in Child and Youth CareCurrent full Professional Certified membership with the Ontario Association of Child and Youth Counselors (OACYC) preferredCertification in Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) preferredA minimum of two (2) years child and youth mental health inpatient experienceDemonstrated experience in developing, implementing and evaluating individual and group programmingDemonstrates OACYC Standards of Practice and Code of EthicsDemonstrated skill in effective crisis managementDemonstrated knowledge and skill in Child and youth mental health servicesDemonstrated knowledge in developmental psychology and psychopathologyDemonstrated knowledge of the Mental Health Act, Substitute Decisions Act, Health Care Consent Act, and Personal Health Information Protection ActDemonstrated ability to communicate effectively and establish therapeutic relationships with clients and team membersDemonstrated ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary teamDemonstrated commitment to lifelong learningEvidence of self-motivation, enthusiasm, and flexibility
