Our team is experienced, compassionate, enthusiastic, and dedicated to providing our clients excellent service and their pets with the best careJob SummaryRegistered Veterinary Technicians (RVT) are an invaluable member of the hospital team who works directly with the Veterinarian and supporting hospital staff to ensure productive and quality veterinary care at all times.Job Duties & Responsibilities· Assist the Veterinarian (DVM) with medical, surgical procedures. Involves preparing patients, instruments and equipment for surgery; administering and monitoring anesthesia under the direction of DVM and administering fluids and other injections as prescribed.· Accurate intake of patient history and document of patient exam and treatments during appointment with DVM.· Conduct and assist the Veterinarian with all medical and surgical procedures using a range of diagnostic equipment including electrocardiographic, radiographic and ultrasonographic equipment. Knoweledge of proper positioning and techniques.· Conduct specimen collection and perform routine laboratory procedures and assist the Veterinarian with all tests in hematology, biochemistry, chemistry, microbiology, urinalysis, and serology to assist in the diagnosis and treatment of animal health problems.· Maintain or monitor equipment such as anesthetic machines, surgery monitors, scopes and other equipment. Ensure all equipment is in good working condition.· Evaluate, triage and perform emergency procedures with Veterinarian. Includes efficiently and accurately administering controlled drugs, setting up IV fluids, taking x-rays (fractures), etc.· Prepare and administer intravenous medications, vaccines and treatments as prescribed by Veterinarians.· Administers anesthesia to animals under the direction of the Veterinarian and monitors animals’ responses to anesthetics so that dosages can be adjusted.· Cares for and monitors the condition of animals recovering from surgery.· Administers emergency first aid, such as performing emergency resuscitation or other life-saving procedures alongside veterinarian.· Collects, prepares, and labels samples for laboratory testing, culture, or microscopic examination.· Cleans and sterilizes instruments, equipment, and materials.· Provides the veterinarian with the correct equipment and instruments, as needed.· Fills prescriptions, measuring medications and labeling containers.· Prepares animals for surgery, performing such tasks as shaving surgical areas and placing IV catheters.· Maintains clean examination rooms and treatment areas.· Works collaboratively with Veterinarians to ensure that all animals are being cared for properly and moving through the system efficiently.Leadership & Client Service

- Demonstrating accountability and professionalism by conducting accurate and timely results with minimal supervision.

- Greeting clients, either on the phone or in person, in a friendly and welcoming manner.Skills & Qualifications· Certification as a Registered Veterinary Technician.· Ability to communicate ideas, express opinion and respond to team members in a professional and positive manner. Involves using an upbeat tone, displaying positive body language and actively listening and understanding the value of differing opinions and ideas.· The ability to work effectively and efficiently in a fast paced environment.· Build positive client relationships through remaining calm in all circumstances, displaying a genuine care and compassion towards clients and their pets, being respectful and non-judgmental in all interacations and providing exceptional customer service.· Counsel clients on various aspects of animal care such as doseage/purpose of medications, home care and preventative healthcare recommendations.· Answer client questions and provide knowledgeable information regarding services, merchandise, pet grooming aids, food supplies and other non-medical items available at the Practice.· Ability to effectively handle and control aggressive animals.· Must be able to handle the physical and emotional aspect of work in a veterinary clinic environment, including euthanasia.· Models a professional and courteous manner with staff and clients.· Commitment to ongoing educational development and growth.· Must have active listening, critical thinking, complex problem solving, time management, judgment and decision making skills.· Contribute to the team as a whole by pro-actively offering assistance to others and willingly performing job tasks that team members need help with or might be outside of normal job responsibilities. May involve assisting to clean and maintain public areas of the Practice.· Valid driver’s license with good driving record.Position Requirements
RVT: Licenced to conduct RVT roles and responsibilities in Nova Scotia.

NVA
