- Perform energy studies for new and existing buildings
- Perform whole building energy modelling, interpret results, make recommendations, and prepare reports documenting analysis and results.
- Perform thermal performance commissioning for new construction projects to assure compliance with the energy modeling inputs.
- Reviewing architectural/mechanical/electrical drawings and specifications to assure compliance with the applicable energy standards and to align with the energy modeling inputs and carbon reduction best practices.
- Perform research and analysis tasks for various research projects. Compile, analyze and interpret data, prepare reports and presentations.
- Prepare reports and presentations to clearly and accurately illustrate findings and recommendations.
- Perform whole building air-tightness testing and diagnostic tests for air barrier commissioning.
- Liaise with the consultant team to develop the commissioning plans and report to the senior staff.
- Perform building envelope component thermal modeling (THERM, FLIXO, and WINDOW) analyses and prepare reports documenting analysis and results.
- Perform energy efficiency assessments of existing buildings (ASHRAE Level 1 and Level 2 assessments), identify components, systems and assemblies to reduce energy consumption, complete energy savings estimates.
- Perform Life Cycle Analysis to determine the embodied emissions of buildings and identify opportunities to reduce the carbon footprint of the buildings.
- Prepare energy related guidelines for various client groups and industry stakeholders.
- Prepare educational and marketing materials (working with practice and marketing leaders) for internal and external presentation.
- Review and assess emerging codes, standards and policies in industry and prepare summary briefs for teams and practice leaders to help shape company’s agenda on energy/carbon reduction
- Support LEED/WELL/etc certifications.
- Degree in Applied Science or Engineering
- LEED GA or LEED AP designation is an asset
- WELL AP designation is an asset
- Registered as a P.Eng with the Professional Engineers of Ontario
- Additional courses related to building science, Passive House, sustainability, and energy efficiency is an asset
- 5 years’ previous experience in related fields is an asset
- Experience in a consulting firm environment considered an asset
- Experience in a construction firm considered an asset
- Strong interest in energy efficiency and sustainable building design
- Excellent understanding of building science, mechanical and electrical systems
- Knowledge of green building programs (LEED, WELL, Passive House, Built Green, BREEAM, etc.)
- Knowledge of energy efficient building principles and target-based modelling assessment
- Experience with energy modelling software such as IES VE, Energy Plus and/or DesignBuilder is an asset
- Experience with Passive House building standard and the PHPP modelling tool is an asset
- Experience applying economic principles and conducting life-cycle cost analysis is an asset
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment, in person or remotely, as a part of a national building performance group
- Excellent ability to communicate with clients and peers, both verbally and in written format
- Ability to build collaborative relationships with clients, staff, and consultants
- Excellent attention to detail and organization skills
- Advanced Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel skills
- Good ability to shift focus between changing priorities in a fast paced work environment
