Reporting to the Finance Manager, the Accounting Technician plays a key role in supporting the day-to-day financial operations of the Foundation, ensuring accuracy, organization, and compliance across all accounting activities.Key ResponsibilitiesAccounting & Financial Operations
  • Process and record donations, including cheques, EFTs, credit card payments, and online contributions (e.g., CanadaHelps).
  • Record in-kind donations and donor share transfers.
  • Maintain accurate donation tracking to support tax receipting and CRA reporting requirements.
  • Prepare bank deposits and perform regular bank reconciliations.
  • Manage accounts payable, including vendor invoices, payments, and pre-authorized payments.
  • Process expense claims and corporate credit card reconciliations.
  • Post recurring journal entries, including investment activity (interest, dividends, fees) and capital asset depreciation.
Donor & Grant Support
  • Process grant payments to charities and prepare accompanying correspondence.
  • Prepare annual donor balance reports and supporting communications.
  • Respond to donor inquiries and provide general support as required.
Payroll, Reporting & Audit Support
  • Assist with semi-monthly payroll processing (Payworks) and annual T4 preparation.
  • Support the annual audit process, including preparation of working papers and required documentation.
Systems & Administrative Support
  • Assist with data entry, document management, and digital filing.
  • Support ongoing system enhancements, including COF’s use of Sage and transition to CommunitySuite.
  • Maintain organized financial records, including archiving and records management.
  • Investigate and resolve discrepancies in financial data.
Requirements
  • Strong understanding of full-cycle accounting.
  • 3–5 years of progressive accounting experience preferred.
  • Experience with accounting software such as Sage or QuickBooks.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365 (Excel, Outlook, Word, Teams), with strong Excel skills.
  • Experience with payroll systems (e.g., Payworks) is an asset.
  • Familiarity with CommunitySuite (C-Suite) is an asset.
  • Experience in the nonprofit or charitable sector is considered an asset.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Clear and professional written and verbal communication.
  • Analytical thinking and problem-solving ability.
  • Self-motivated, with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Adaptable, flexible, and comfortable managing competing priorities.

Compensation & Work StructureThis is a full-time in office, permanent position.
