Location: Metro Vancouver, BC (territory-based role)
Compensation: $90,000–$118,000 base salary, plus car allowance and commissionThis role is responsible for driving sales growth and market development across the Metro Vancouver region. The Business Development Manager will identify, qualify, and develop new business opportunities, manage key accounts, and secure project wins across multiple customer segments, including specifiers, end users, contractors, developers, distributors, and municipal clients.ResponsibilitiesBusiness Development & Lead Generation
- Achieve annual sales and margin targets within the assigned Metro Vancouver territory.
- Identify and qualify new opportunities aligned with target verticals, including commercial, institutional, municipal, and multi-family projects.
- Develop and execute territory-specific business development strategies to expand existing accounts and penetrate new markets.
- Evaluate tender, design-build, and IPD opportunities aligned with business and manufacturer strategies.
- Build a strong market presence through regular in-person meetings, site visits, and industry engagement throughout the region.
- Lead opportunities from early design/specification stages through quotation, proposal, presentation, and negotiation.
- Balance new business development with ongoing account management, including retention and growth of existing clients.
- Collaborate with internal teams and manufacturing partners to support tenders, approvals, and design-build projects.
- Maintain a well-managed opportunity pipeline with clear visibility into timelines, probabilities, and revenue forecasts.
- Support the development and execution of lighting and controls specifications for projects across Metro Vancouver and as required, broader BC/Yukon regions.
- Work closely with internal teams during design development, construction documentation, and bid phases.
- Develop business within the municipal and public-sector space by understanding procurement processes and capital planning cycles.
- Coordinate internal and external technical resources to deliver effective solutions, mock-ups, and technical presentations.
- Develop and manage key accounts, including specifiers, contractors, developers, distributors, end users, municipalities, and manufacturers.
- Act as a trusted advisor by providing consultative, technically sound solutions.
- Participate in client meetings, presentations, lunch-and-learns, industry events, and manufacturer-led initiatives.
- Maintain accurate CRM records, including client interactions, opportunities, and project data.
- Track and report on pipeline health, business development activity, and forecast accuracy.
- Participate in regular business reviews and contribute to annual planning, budgeting, and regional strategy development.
- Collaborate closely with internal sales, operations, marketing, and leadership teams to align priorities and optimize growth.
- Completion of Grade 12 required, post-secondary education or equivalent experience in sales, business, marketing, trades, or a related field preferred.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in business development or sales, ideally within lighting, construction, design, or technology-driven products.
- Proven ability to manage complex sales cycles from lead generation through project close across a large geographic territory.
- Strong technical aptitude related to lighting, controls, and specifications; NCQLP LC designation is an asset.
- Proficiency with CRM systems (Salesforce preferred) and Microsoft Office.
- Valid BC driver’s license, valid passport, and willingness to travel extensively within the territory and occasionally within Canada/US.
- Excellent communication, organizational, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and adapt to changing project demands.
