The Environmental and Waste Technologies Branch requires an environmental research scientist specializing in tritium, stable isotope analyses, a range of additional low-level radioisotope analyses, and geochemistry. This position entails leading and participating in various research projects aiming to understand the fate, transport, and ecological effects of radionuclides in the environment with a focus on tritium. Work includes field studies, laboratory studies and analytical applications involving aspects of environmental geochemistry, radiochemistry, radioecology, groundwater modeling, contaminant hydrology, and/or trace elements. A research scientist will provide technical oversight of a research greenhouse and a low background radionuclide analysis facility to support research project and monitoring needs. Where applicable, technical oversight of facilities may include the implementation of ISO quality management standards. What you will be doing:
  • Developing research proposals and detailed plans, schedules, and budgets for environmental research studies.
  • Interacting with the Government of Canada and other key stakeholders.
  • Executing research projects, as lead or as a member of the research team.
  • Managing various facilities: greenhouse, low-background laboratory.
  • Implementing and maintaining data management systems (LIMS or equivalent).
  • Developing and supporting methods for low-level radioisotope detection; with an emphasis on tritium.
  • Enhancing facilities sustainability by performing external outreach and engagement to increase revenue generation opportunities.
  • Identifying and characterizing environmental problems and developing remedial actions.
