Are you passionate about outdoor recreation and creating safe, engaging experiences in the community? The City of Burnaby is seeking auxiliary Recreation Leader 2s to join our Parks, Recreation and Culture team. This role involves planning, coordinating, and leading a variety of outdoor recreation programs, including activities such as kayaking, canoeing, and hiking. Working across multiple program sites, you will support the delivery of high-quality programs by supervising contract instructors and auxiliary staff, ensuring safety standards are met, and contributing to the overall organization and success of seasonal outdoor programming. You will also build positive relationships with participants, staff, and community partners, while promoting participation and supporting a welcoming and inclusive environment. Performs other related work as required.The ideal candidates will have completion of a two-year Community Recreation program from a recognized post-secondary institution, supplemented by related experience in recreation programming and leadership. Demonstrated supervisory experience, particularly within outdoor recreation programs, is required, along with experience leading or instructing activities such as kayaking, canoeing, or hiking. Relevant certifications (e.g., RCABC Flatwater Instructor or SKGABC Guiding Instructor) are considered an asset. Strong knowledge of recreation program planning, safety practices, and the ability to lead and support staff and volunteers is essential. A valid First Aid and CPR certification and a valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence for the Province of British Columbia are required.Pay Rate: $31.97 per hour + 12% in lieu of benefits (2024 Rates)$34.25 per hour + 12% in lieu of benefits (2026 Rates)Location: Deer Lake, Burnaby Lake Sports Complex West (Multiple outdoor satellite stores)Hours of work: This is an auxiliary position, hours and shifts are based on operational requirements and do not provide guaranteed hours of work, which may include on-call shifts.
