Schedule- 12-18 hours/weekThe Part-time Cleaner will be responsible for keeping buildings in clean and orderly condition, and will perform heavy cleaning duties, such as cleaning floors, shampooing rugs, washing walls and glass, and removing rubbish. Duties may include tending furnace and boiler, performing routine maintenance activities, notifying management of need for repairs, and cleaning snow or debris from sidewalk.Core CompetenciesService OrientationCommunicationTeamworkProblem SolvingAccountabilityJob DutiesLocks or unlocks doors, turns lights on/off, generally patrols grounds.Performs general clean up of all district office facilities.Sweeps, mops, polishes, refinishes resilient floors, vacuums and shampoos carpeted areas, dumps garbage and recycle bins, performs all cleaning aspects of halls, offices, board rooms, restrooms, lunchroom and auditoriums as well as washing walls, windows and window coverings.Cleans light fixtures and changes bulbs/tubes.Performs minor repairs on windows, doors, switches, desks, tables, plugs, equipment, appliances, sinks, toilets, blinds etc.Contacts appropriate maintenance service shop for major repairs.Responsible for vandalism clean up and repair within skill level.Maintains heating and air conditioning systems, boilers, pumps, fan units, control panels, thermostats, cooling towers, etc.Maintains and/or has working knowledge of environmental safeguards and alarm systems.Maintains fire alarms, extinguishers.Prepares and sets up rooms or auditoriums for meetings, parties, or various other activities and cleans up afterwards.Maintains outside grounds (removes snow, ice, and debris, sprays and removes weeds, sweeps and cleans gutters, waters and maintains sprinkling system.Monitors emergency generator, function and orders refueling.Plan and prioritize work for self and staff.Determine needed supplies and equipment.Monitor need for equipment maintenance and repair.Responsible for proper inventory of materials and supplies. Accountable to administrators for custodial performance.Recommends hiring and retention of custodial personnel.Monitors work quality, trains as needed.RequirementsHigh school diploma/GED1 year of custodial/janitorial experienceCompletion of a craft apprenticeship preferredHighly motivated and able to work independently.Minimum 1 year experience in the operation and maintenance of buildingsMust be able to schedule and prioritize work for self, assistant and custodial helpers.Must have the ability to motivate personnel to ensure they work productively, cooperatively and with a sense of satisfaction in their work.Ability to comprehend and communicate detailed instructions orally and in writingAbility to multi-task and establish prioritiesExhibit initiative, responsibility, and flexibilityBuilding trades certificate or equivalent desirableAbility to perform small repairs (e.g. caulking, replacing washers, and replacing light fixtures)Knowledge of local, provincial and federal workplace compliance regulations, ordinances and legislationStrong communication and problem solving skillsPossess a valid drivers licenseAble to create alternative solutions to problemsExcellent time management and project management skillsHigh level of sound and independent judgment and reasoningAbility to interpret and implement company policies and proceduresDemonstrated ability to exercise necessary cost control measuresHighly flexible, with solid interpersonal skills that allow one to work effectively in a diverse working environmentAble to effectively communicate both verbally and in writingAble to work well under pressureStrong attention to detailAble to deal with people sensitively, tactfully, diplomatically, and professionally at all timesStrong working knowledge of Microsoft computer software (e.g. Excel, Word, etc.) and emailFirst Aid skills and/or certificates are considered assetsWork ConditionsPhysical ability to lift up to 75lbSafety equipment will be required, e.g. steel-toed safety boots, safety glasses/goggles, etc.Overtime as requiredHazards associated with the tradeWork both indoors and outdoorsWill be exposed to construction siteApply to mgupta@championproducts.com
