- Lead hardware design of an optical transceiver, meeting customer specification from concept to pre-production, including schematic capture, circuit simulation, PCB design guidance, and design verification testing.
- Key contributor to Specification Alignment, Concept Design, Detailed Design and Designer Verification phases of the product development cycle.
- Understand electrical and optical requirements and specifications of optical transceiver MSA.
- Maintain documentation of a hardware design specification
- Assure design for performance, manufacturability and cost.
- Interface with mechanical engineers, optical engineers, microelectronics engineer, firmware engineers, process engineers and test engineers.
- Review simulations of the high-speed interfaces.
- Create the firmware requirement documentation.
- Lead design reviews as required.
- Create BOMS and ECO to document design.
- Interact with program manager, buyer/planner and suppliers to make sure designed parts are available in a timely manner for build.
- Resolve DFM issues.
- Work with rel-qual compliance group to design fully compliant optical transceiver.
- Troubleshooting and yield improvement of the optical transceiver.
- Serve as technical resource for junior engineers.
- B.S. in Electrical Engineering. M.S or Ph.D. is considered and asset..
- Minimum 12 years of relevant experience is required.
- Strong independent design leadership skills.
- Strong analog and digital circuit design skills and layout with mixed signal designs.
- Knowledge of transceiver electrical design issues, including high speed signal integrity, crosstalk, power noise and loss soft start, ESD, testing, etc.
- Strong laboratory optical and electrical measurement skills.
- Strong communication and presentation skills.
- Strong background with high density multiple-layer board design cycle.
- Knowledgeable on thermal and EMI management.
- Experience with electronics CAD tools and electronic system modeling.
- Understand principals of micro-controller and communication protocols such as SPI, I2C, MDIO, and real time control firmware.
- Strong background of digital communication theory.
- Experience in RF design using modeling tools such as CST or HFSS.
- Experience of full previous optical transceiver design cycle.
- Familiar with high-speed (RF) and optoelectronic devices: drivers, modulators, lasers, detectors, TIA, CDR/DSP and equalization.
- Work experience with optical components.
- Experience with optical transceiver test methodologies.
- Knowledge of various optical transceivers in CWDM and DWDM networks.
- Familiarity with industry standards including IEEE Ethernet standards, OIF standards and various MSAs.
