- Safe Vehicle Operation: Operate various types of vehicles in compliance with all applicable provincial and federal laws, while maintaining municipal regulations governing transit operations. Ensure passengers are transported safely between assigned stops.
- Vehicle Inspections: Perform required pre-trip inspections to ensure vehicle safety. Report any mechanical issues or malfunctions to the Maintenance Shop and refrain from operating any unsafe vehicles.
- Adhere to Routes and Schedules: Follow the assigned route according to the established schedule. In the event of delays or route changes, promptly inform supervision.
- Passenger Assistance: Provide assistance to passengers with mobility issues or those requiring help, ensuring comfort and safety throughout their journey.
- Accident and Incident Reporting: In the event of any accident or incidents, follow company procedures for reporting and documenting occurrences.
- Vehicle Cleanliness and Maintenance: Keep the interior of the vehicle clean and tidy, ensuring a safe and pleasant experience for passengers. Maintain fuel levels as per company procedures and prepare the vehicle for adverse weather conditions (e.g., clearing windows of snow or ice).
- Emergency Preparedness: Safely utilize bus equipment, including radios and emergency tools, when needed.
- Professionalism and Appearance: Maintain a professional, courteous, and cooperative attitude with passengers, colleagues, and supervisors at all times. Present a neat and clean appearance as per company standards.
- Ethics: Exhibits the highest ethical best practices and personal integrity; Shares concerns about suspicious or inappropriate behavior with their supervisor or manager
- Other Duties: Complete any additional duties as required by management to support transit operations.
- Age Requirement: Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Licensing and Certifications: Must possess a valid Ontario Class B or Class C driver’s license (or be able to obtain one) with a clean driving record. Driver Certification through the Ontario Ministry of Transportation is required.
- Safety and Training: Completion of all necessary driver safety training and certification, as well as any ongoing safety courses as mandated by the company and provincial regulations.
- Customer Service Skills: Must demonstrate professional and courteous communication skills when interacting with passengers and colleagues.
- Attention to Detail and Dexterity: Ability to operate transit vehicles with a high degree of attention to safety and dexterity.
- Defensive Driving: A commitment to practicing defensive driving techniques and safe work habits to prevent accidents and ensure the safety of passengers.
- Work Environment: This position involves both indoor and outdoor work in all weather conditions, requiring the ability to operate vehicles in various environmental conditions.
- Physical Demands: Must be capable of providing assistance to passengers, including helping those with mobility needs or other special requirements.
- Shift Requirements: Must be available to work weekdays including stat holidays between 6am and 6:30p with the potential to accommodate the transit schedule if it changes.
