Reporting directly to the Superintendent of Public Works, you'll spearhead the safe installation, repair, and maintenance of vital infrastructure, including water mains, sewer services, roads, and sidewalks. Your leadership will be instrumental in ensuring the seamless operation of our community's essential services, especially during winter control activities. Additionally, you'll perform essential administrative duties for the Public Works Department, including material calculation, estimation, assignment, and accurate record-keeping and development of standard operating procedures. Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD)
5 years of related experience
An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered
Additional course work in Roads Maintenance
Ontario Traffic Council Book 7 Training
Ontario Water Wastewater Certification Office (OWWCO) Class 1 Water Distribution Certificate
OWWCO Operator-in-Training (OIT) in Wastewater Collection with ability to obtain Wastewater Collection Class 1
Valid Class D license with Air Brake (Z) Endorsement with abstract acceptable to City guidelines
The CandidateThe successful candidate should possess the following experience, knowledge and competencies:
Experienced in supervising, managing and training staff in a unionized environment
Ability to interpret and apply various legislation and regulations including but not limited to: Occupational Health & Safety; Ministry of Labour; Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks; Highway Traffic Act; Drinking Water Quality Management System (DWQMS) while maintaining appropriate documentation
Knowledgeable in scheduling and overseeing various Public Works operations including minimum maintenance standards, winter control, road maintenance, water and wastewater maintenance
Proven ability in navigating on-call rotations, effectively coordinating after-hours call-ins for crews, promptly assessing issues and addressing their impact on public services, and providing swift and efficient emergency response assistance.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a focus in public relations
