Metallurgical TechnicianThe company is a high-tech laboratory that is involved in testing, failure analysis and characterization of materials, components and structural elements. We use a variety of techniques like optical and scanning electron microscopy, macro and micro-FTIR, XRF, DSC, TGA, TMA, x-ray imaging analysis, Mechanical tensile testers, hardness and microhardness testers, ICP, Leco analyzers, optical spectrophotometry, roughness testers, high temperature thermal analysis systems, metallurgical sample preparation equipment, temperature/humidity chambers, thermal cycling chambers, etc.As a member of the Metallurgical Division Team, you will be supporting the Technical Services activities with a variety of standard metallurgical laboratory testing and analysis work.In this role you will also support operational activities by providing technician support on failure analysis.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Regards safety as a high priority and demonstrates initiative in terms of seeking out and resolving safety issues.
  • Precision and attention to detail
  • Perform the following Metallurgical Laboratory Activities:
  • Metallography:
  • Sample preparation (sectioning, mounting, grinding, polishing, and etching)
  • Optical microscopy • Computerized image analysis
  • Record, summarize and electronically submit test and analysis data to members of the team
  • Perform basic maintenance of Metallurgical Lab equipment, as necessary
  • R&D laboratory organization, cleanliness and safety
  • Works in compliance with companies Quality and EHS Policies and Procedures, including ISO 9001-2015
  • Perform other related duties as required.
Qualifications, Education And / or Experience:
  • B. Sc. or higher Diploma in Materials Science / Metallurgy
  • Materials engineering knowledge in respect to the structure of metals and metals processing
  • 1 -3 years working experience in the automotive, electronic or metals processing industry is preferred
  • Knowledge of fundamentals of metallurgy, materials engineering and process engineering
  • Ability to learn new skills, apply good experimental methodologies.
  • Good organizational and documentation skills
  • Good analytical abilities and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated strong communication skills, high-level of motivation and ability to work independently or as a team member
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Microsoft Office, specifically Word & Excel, file management, Word, Excel
