This position is responsible for estimating and submitting tenders, project schedule preparation, coordination of resources, quality assurance and quality control, client relations, tracking work, financial reporting, and other tasks as needed.Key ResponsibilitiesEstimating
  • Obtain, review and interpret tender document.
  • Understand and interpret tender specification to determine job requirements.
  • Visit and inspect job site in preparation for bidding.
  • Estimate project costs and apply for bid bonds.
  • Enter tender items into estimating software, and determine the labour and resources necessary for pricing.
  • Identify appropriate sub trades, obtain sub pricing, and award sub contracts.
  • Apply appropriate markup and submit tenders by their deadline.
  • Other Estimating duties as required.
Onsite Inspection
  • Meet with onsite staff to discuss daily progress and project issues.
  • Inspect project worksite for any impending issues or concerns.
  • Review and assess work completed to ensure schedules are maintained.
  • Attend and participate in onsite meetings with clients, owners, representatives, staff, sub trades, contractors, and other project stakeholders.
  • Other Onsite Inspection duties as required.
Project Management
  • Complete oversight for successful execution of assigned projects to meet corporate goals for safety, quality, budge and schedule, in accordance with our core values.
  • Gather, sort and enter job information into the appropriate software programs.
  • Liaise with consultants, owners, customers, superintendents, sub-contractors and other project stakeholders regarding safety, project progress, scheduling, change orders and other project issues.
  • Schedule crews, sub-contractors, materials, trucking and other resources necessary to meet and maintain project schedules.
  • Examine engineering reports to ensure quality control requirements are met, and apply appropriate corrective action when necessary.
  • Troubleshoot project concerns such as bad weather, scheduling conflicts, quality control issues, labour issues, contractor and/or client concerns and other unforeseeable matters.
  • Monitor and update project schedules.
  • Coordinate Alberta One Calls, dig permits, Job kick offs, and other related tasks.
  • Receive and review progress estimates, and resolve any discrepancies.
  • Must ensure a solid understanding of, and comply with the principles of the company’s Code of Ethics.
  • Must examine situations in light of the principles of the Code of Ethics.
  • Other Project Management duties as required.
Cost Controls
  • Prepare and submit monthly progress estimates to ensure proper payments are received and paid out based on quantities submitted.
  • Issue payments to suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Manage the project budgets
  • Follow up with clients, when necessary, regarding unpaid invoices.
  • Accurately forecast project profitability, revenue, margins and bill rates.
  • Ensure project legal documents are completed and signed
  • Other Cost Control duties as required.
Safety
  • Participate, accept, and adopt the principles described in the company safety program.
  • Work in a safe, responsible manner to not intentionally or unintentionally injure oneself, or endanger the wellbeing of others.
Teamwork
  • Participate as an integral member of the team, and contribute towards the success of the organization, which may involve the provision of other technical and administrative support, as required.
  • Collaborate with any project teams on other special initiatives, as required.
  • Assist with Marketing efforts of the group which could include attending tradeshows & conferences and possibly occupying a tradeshow booth.
Training and ExperienceEducation, Training and Certifications
  • Technical Diploma in Certified Engineering Technology an asset.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) and/or Civil Engineering Technologist (CET) designation an asset.
  • Class 5 Drivers License.
Work Experience
  • 3 - 5 years’ experience in road maintenance including crack fill, sign and guard installation
  • Previous management experience an asset.
Working Conditions
  • Travel as required.
  • Hours may fluctuate based on company requirements and project needs
  • Must be physically able to repetitively lift and carry at least 10 LBS on a regular basis.
  • Use of Personal Protection Equipment is required.
  • Must comply with the company’s drug and alcohol testing requirements.
  • Manual dexterity required to use computer and peripherals
  • Company Vehicle will be made available as per the Company’s Vehicle Policy
