JOB SUMMARYUnder the direct supervision of Manager, Sterile Compounding, the Supervisor, Compounding Operations is responsible for overseeing daily operations of the Drug Preparation Premises (DPP), including workflow management, staff supervision, and ensuring compliance with all regulatory, professional, and organizational standards.The Compounding Operations Supervisor provides leadership and supervision to pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, assistants, clerks and support staff involved in sterile compounding operations both inside and outside the cleanroom environment. The role ensures safe, efficient, and compliant sterile compounding practices.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Oversees daily workflow and production activities within the Drug Preparation Premises (DPP), ensuring operational efficiency and compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Assigns tasks, prioritizes workflow, and monitors operational activities to ensure timely and accurate completion of compounding and dispensing activities.
  • Ensures adequate staffing coverage by preparing staff schedules, managing sick calls, and coordinating staffing adjustments as required.
  • Addresses operational challenges, workflow issues, and staff concerns in a timely and effective manner.
  • Supports the Manager, Sterile Compounding in implementing departmental strategies, initiatives, and operational improvements.
  • Provides day-to-day supervision, coaching, and guidance to team members to ensure high standards of performance and professionalism.
  • Participates in staff performance evaluations and provides feedback to support employee development and performance improvement.
  • Supports onboarding, orientation, and training of new employees within compounding operations.
  • Identifies staff training needs and supports competency assessments in collaboration with management.
  • Promotes a culture of safety, accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
  • Monitor cleanroom activities to ensure aseptic technique, environmental controls, and sterile compounding practices are consistently followed.
  • Ensures appropriate cleaning and disinfection of controlled areas, equipment, and facilities. ensuring compliance with SOPs and regulatory requirements
  • Maintains model standards of sterile compounding practice within the cleanroom environment.
  • Ensures all sterile preparations are compounded, labeled, verified, packaged, and dispensed in accordance with regulatory and professional standards.
  • Ensures compounded preparations are correctly matched to delivery schedules for timely shipment.
  • Identifies and escalates medication errors, deviations, or compliance concerns to the Manager, Sterile Compounding.
  • Oversees and supports environmental monitoring programs including air and surface sampling in cleanroom and anteroom areas.
  • Coordinates and supports glove fingertip testing and media fill testing for compounding personnel.
  • Supports sterility testing programs and ensures documentation accuracy including Certificates of Analysis.
  • Oversees medication and supply inventory including ordering, receiving, storage, and expiry monitoring.
  • Ensures appropriate storage conditions including ambient and cold chain requirements.
  • Supports batch dispensing, batch verification, and approval processes in PharmacyKeeper (IV Workflow).
  • Oversees dispensing and shipping schedules to ensure timely and accurate order fulfillment.
  • Participates in internal meetings, audits, and third-party inspections as required.
  • Assists with client inquiries and operational support activities when required.
  • Contributes to the development, review, and improvement of SOPs, policies, and operational workflows.
  • Ensures accurate and compliant packaging and dispensing of final sterile preparations, including:
o Verifying accuracy and completeness of compounded sterile productso Inspecting final products for particulate matter and container integrityo Ensuring preparations are correctly matched to delivery schedules for timely shippingSupports the Drug Preparation Premises (DPP) Manager and Sterile Compounding Supervisor in maintaining compliance with federal, provincial, and local regulations, and accreditation standards.Ensures adherence to all applicable SOPs, quality standards, and regulatory requirements, including those of the Ontario College of Pharmacists.Accountable for daily operational outcomes within sterile compounding activities, including production throughput, quality standards, and regulatory compliance for assigned shifts.Holds decision making authority within scope to address workflow disruptions, staffing variances, and operational risks, taking timely corrective action and escalating only when required.Performs other related duties as assigned.QualificationsQUALIFICATIONSEducation· Bachelor of Pharmacy (BPharm) from an accredited institution is required.· Registered Pharmacist in good standing with the Ontario College of Pharmacists (OCP), holding a Certificate of Registration (Part A) permitting direct patient care, is required.· Minimum of 3–5 years of pharmacy practice experience, with demonstrated experience in sterile compounding and Drug Preparation Premises (DPP) operations, is required.· Minimum of 1–2 years of leadership or supervisory experience in a pharmacy or sterile compounding environment, with accountability for staff oversight, workflow coordination, and operational decision‑making.· Demonstrated working knowledge of applicable regulatory and professional standards, including OCP requirements, NAPRA Model Standards, and relevant federal and provincial legislation governing sterile compounding.· Proven ability to lead within a regulated cleanroom environment, including adherence to aseptic technique, environmental controls, documentation standards, and quality assurance practices, is preferredOther Skills and Abilities· Exceptional interpersonal skills and decision-making skills; ability to handle difficult situations in an objective consistent format; ability to effectively lead a team, commitment to continual learning
