Closing Date: April 30, 2026Position SummaryThe Senior Advisor, Strategy & Corporate Affairs is a key member of the Strategy & Governance Team within the Office of the President & CEO, reporting to the Chief Strategy Officer. This role operates within a highly visible, enterprise-wide context with an integrated mandate spanning corporate governance, strategy, corporate affairs, and executive support. It requires exceptional judgment, discretion, and the ability to operate credibly across senior leadership, governance, and policy environments.Duties
  • Support oversight and continuous improvement of UHN's corporate governance framework, ensuring alignment with legislation and best practices.
  • Lead Board and Board Committee administration, including annual planning cycles, agendas, materials, minutes, and portal management.
  • Support the Governance & Nominating Committee through preparation of briefing materials, agendas, and governance documentation.
  • Maintain and update governance policies, by-laws, terms of reference, and related corporate documents to ensure compliance.
  • Support Board succession planning, trustee onboarding, education, orientation, and ongoing development activities.
  • Maintain corporate records, registers, and filings for UHN and affiliated entities in compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Monitor legislative, regulatory, and sector developments and prepare briefings to support Board awareness and decision-making.
  • Ensure alignment of governance processes and Board materials with UHN's Strategic Plan and enterprise priorities.
  • Conduct environmental scanning and provide analysis on emerging governance, policy, and risk trends.
  • Support strategic initiatives and enterprise projects, integrating governance, risk, and performance considerations.
  • Develop high-quality communications and materials for the Board, senior leadership, and external stakeholders, including briefing notes and presentations.
  • Support government relations and corporate affairs activities through preparation of briefing materials and correspondence.
  • Support executive and senior management committees, ensuring effective governance processes and alignment across decision-making forums.
  • Collaborate across teams to support governance operations, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement of processes and tools.
Qualifications
  • Completion of a Bachelor's degree in in Public Administration, Health Administration, Law, Business Administration or recognized equivalent. Master's degree would be considered an asset.
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in corporate governance, legal, health system administration, public sector strategy, or equivalent experience; experience in an academic health science centre or complex public institution preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of relevant legislation and governance frameworks, including the Corporations Act, Public Hospitals Act, and Ontario hospital accountability requirements
  • Solid understanding of the Ontario health system, Ministry of Health accountability structures, and academic health science centre environments.
  • Proven project and process management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a complex, deadline-driven environment.
  • Strong research and analytical skills, with the ability to synthesize information and translate it into clear, actionable outputs.
  • Demonstrated excellence in executive-level writing, including briefing notes, minutes, presentations, resolutions, and speaking materials.
  • High degree of political acuity, judgment, and discretion, with the ability to navigate sensitive and complex issues.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain trusted relationships with senior leaders and government stakeholders.
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently in a fast-paced, high-volume, and evolving environment.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize competing demands and maintain accuracy under pressure.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft 365 (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams) and Board portal systems (e.g., Diligent or equivalent).
