- Prepare technical documents, such as: engineering drawings (including GAs, DDs, EDs), change paper markups, calculations, design/analysis reports, design requirements, design manuals, bill of materials, design specifications, technical specifications, component specification sheets, commissioning specifications, etc.
- Perform engineering work following AtkinsRéalis /Candu Energy procedures and QA programs, and applicable codes, standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Prepare scope of work, input to bid proposals and requisitions or Engineering Quotation Requests (EQR) for equipment and materials to support procurement.
- Lead team of design engineers, field construction and execution activities, such as field changes, design revisions, commissioning, AFS, closeout, etc.
- Supervising, coordinating and reviewing the work of junior and assistant engineers/ designers; preparing estimates and monitoring schedules and assigns work to meet completion dates to team members.
- Coordinate and interface with client(s), suppliers, stakeholders, provide technical guidance and instruction to Designers/Drafters to execute assigned engineering work.
- Become involved in conceptual, preliminary and/or detailed design phases to support CANDU and other Nuclear electrical systems and modifications.
- Participate in review of interfacing discipline’s documentation.
- Complete the assigned scopes or tasks within given budget and schedule, and in good quality.
- Provide prompt response and engineering resolutions on any critical engineering related matters.
- Perform field walk-downs during different design phases, and prepare Walkdown reports as required.
- Engineering Degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university or equivalent degree as recognized by Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO).
- Registered as a Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario.
- 15 years of professional experience in electrical engineering and power systems design, specifically within heavy industrial plant environments such, or energy production.
- Significant experience in electrical engineering of nuclear power systems, with comprehensive knowledge of CANDU electrical systems is highly desirable.
- Experience with medium voltage and low voltage power distribution systems, including preparation of Single Line diagrams, Elementary Diagrams, Wiring Diagrams, Cable Block Diagrams and schedules, and calculation of power demand/ electrical load lists.
- Experience with transformer sizing, cable sizing, circuit breaker sizing calculations.
- Experience in modelling electrical power systems and use of analysis functions in ETAP, or other similar software program is an asset.
- Prior experience with large-scale and mega-scale design-build projects is preferred.
- Site experience in construction, or commissioning of electrical systems for nuclear or other heavy industries would be an asset.
- Supervise, mentor, and review the work of junior/assistant engineers and designers.
- Good knowledge and experience of CANDU nuclear electrical power systems.
- Good working knowledge of applicable codes and standards, such as of CSA 22.1, Canadian Electrical Code Part I and The Ontario Electrical Safety Code (OESC).
- Familiar with specifying and procurement support for electrical equipment such as Transformers, MCCs, low voltage distribution load centers, UPS systems including rectifiers and inverters and Diesel Generators (emergency and standby), power and control and instrumentation cables.
- Shall have fundamental technical knowledge to resolve engineering issues or technical problems.
- Excellent technical writing skills and be able to author, review, and produce high-quality technical documentation.
- Strong teamwork abilities, effective teamwork, collaborative problem-solving within a large multidisciplinary team environment, and interpersonal skills are all crucial.
- Shall have excellent communication skills and good ability to interact and communicate (both verbal and in writing) professionally with colleagues, clients and contractors.
- Already is or is willing to become a Nuclear Energy Worker (NEW).
