- Follow instructions to load and unload construction materials and move materials to other lots or construction sites within the development.
- Daily moving, cleaning and inventory of tools and equipment around the site as instructed.
- Prepare the house for painters, including scrubbing and preparing all paint surfaces as instructed.
- Prepare floors by vacuuming, mopping, pulling nails and scraping as instructed.
- Prepare the house for carpenters and trades by pulling nails, sweeping, vacuuming and scrubbing a variety of surfaces as instructed.
- Daily collection and disposal of debris across the construction site, including common areas (site office) and houses using rakes, shovels, wheelbarrows and other equipment as instructed. This should be done while ensuring compliance with waste removal programs.
- Lock and unlock houses at the beginning and end of each shift as instructed.
- Locate standpipes and ensure water is turned on for each box as instructed.
- Snow removal and shoveling of drives and walkways during the winter months as instructed.
- Assist tradespersons as directed by Site Superintendent.
- Assist in installation of guardrails, barriers and other safety measures as instructed.
- Install high-density foam under the direction of the Site Superintendent or Finishing Foreman as instructed.
- Relocate and ensure proper functionality of construction propane and electric heaters as required if proper training/certification is in place. Ensure heat has been disconnected appropriately at the end of the shift.
- Provide status reports to the Site Superintendent on tasks and raise concerns or issues daily.
- All other duties as required by the manager.
- High-school diploma is preferred.
- Experience in residential building or related construction industry would be an asset.
- Ability to receive and follow instructions and coordinate several simultaneous tasks while staying focused, paying strong attention to detail and maintaining a positive attitude and flexible work style.
- Ability to lift, carry, push and pull items up to at least 40 lbs on a consistent basis throughout the day.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate verbally in English.
- Good organizational and time management skills, with the ability to complete tasks as per the prescribed schedule/timelines.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work well independently, and a willingness to learn.
- Good interpersonal skills in dealing with supervisors, trades and colleagues.
- Current valid certifications in Working at Heights, Forklift, Propane and Natural Gas, First Aid, WHMIS 2015 and Health and Safety Awareness would be a strong asset.
- Valid driver’s license in good standing is a requirement.
- Busy, and at times, a loud environment.
- Providing service to several people or departments, working under many simultaneous deadlines
- Sitting or standing for long periods of time at workstation.
- Heavy manual labor, requires ability to climb ladders,
- Ability to work indoors and outdoors in all seasons and weather conditions.
- Hazards associated with the construction industry.
- Overtime may be required.
