- Registered Nurse with current practicing registration with the BC College of Nurses and Midwives.
- Completion of a post graduate high acuity nursing course.
- Consideration will be given to candidates with one year’s recent, related experience in an equivalent setting or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
- Demonstrated experience and/or successful completion of recent education/training in performing venipuncture for sample collection.
- Requires Intravenous (IV) Therapy and Insertion training.
- Successful completion of courses on conduct of clinical research would be an asset.
- Previous experience working with an interdisciplinary team or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Demonstrated interest in clinical research.
- Demonstrated knowledge and ability to perform Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) procedures appropriate for the area of service.
- Demonstrated skills competency and proficiency in IV Therapy, including care and maintenance of both peripheral and central venous catheters.
- Ability to collect venous blood samples via peripheral venipuncture and central venous catheters.
- Knowledge of clinical area of study.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

- Competitive salary: $41.42 - $55.91 CAD per hour, depending on experience

- Performs primary care nursing duties within scope of practice, including physical assessments, administering medications, treatments, phlebotomy, pregnancy tests, and urine drug tests as applicable.
- Performs IV therapy care, including inserting and maintaining IV lines, initiating IV infusion devices, administering medications, monitoring line status, and addressing clotting issues.
- Collects blood and urine samples per study protocol. Labels and packages items for the laboratory following Transportation of Dangerous Goods regulations and study safety protocols.
- Ensures appropriate appointments, diagnostic tests, procedures, and follow-up visits are scheduled.
- Advocates for patients/clients, ensuring dignity, respect, privacy, confidentiality, autonomy, and access to information.
- Assists the Principal/Study Investigator and study personnel in identifying and recruiting study subjects and assessing participant eligibility based on established criteria.
- Reviews and explains the purpose and conduct of the study, consent forms, study obligations, and obtains required consent signatures.
- Conducts initial screening/nursing assessments of potential subjects, obtaining medical history and social profiles. Educates and supports participants and families regarding the study and related diseases.
- Administers study questionnaires to subjects, accurately documenting collected data via forms or computer.
- Reviews research protocol and study design with the Study Investigator(s) and other study personnel.
- Prepares study documents, including Research Ethics Board (REB) correspondence and required regulatory documents.
- Conducts research following Good Clinical Practice (GCP), International Conference on Harmonization (ICH), and Tri-Council Policy Statement regulations.
- Prepares for study audits when required.
- Adheres to Department/Program Research Standard Operating Procedures.
- Maintains required records and documentation, updating and completing case report forms, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.
- Monitors, records, and reports adverse events occurring during the clinical study, notifying the Principal/Study Investigator per regulatory requirements.
- Supports department/program staff regarding current trials, ensures compliance with protocols, and acts as a resource to clinical staff, patients, and colleagues.
- Provides orientation regarding the study and protocols to other staff. Liaises with study team members regarding clinical issues, records, data management, and protocol changes.
- Consults, confers, and collaborates with multidisciplinary team members, physicians, educational resources, and other healthcare professionals to enhance patient-centered education and research.
- Attends in-service presentations, educational sessions and investigator meetings.
- Orders and maintains study supplies.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
