- Coordinate, lead, initiate and manage the continual improvement process utilizing structured problem solving within the corrective and preventive action processes
- Develop and implement effective corrective actions for customer complaints and significant internal quality issues
- Perform periodic process audits to ensure conformance with documented work procedures
- Participate in TPG internal and external quality audit functions
- Conduct or coordinate product and process analyses (often in coordination with R&D) to synthesize complex technical information into meaningful conclusions and prepare comprehensive reports related to improvement initiatives
- Intimately understand the requirements of national, international and customer tubular standards/specifications and communicate inspection or processing requirements to Operations
- Determine the statistical capability of key product criteria to ensure consistent product conformity
- Develop and confirm that inspection and lab practices and procedures are appropriate and in compliance with specified requirements including oversight inspection practices and procedures
- Monitor and trend daily/weekly key quality metrics and communicate issues to mill management as part of effort to identify improvement opportunities
- Lead product and process improvement through conducting and formalizing quality improvement and/or new product developments
- Assemble summary information and submit supplier claims as required
- Oversee inspection of supplied materials from third parties
- Prepare technical reports that analyze dates and identify next steps, and present key results to multiple stakeholders
- Develop and Manage QA CAPEX Spending
- Collaboration at all levels of management demonstrating a positive attitude toward new ideas
- University degree in Metallurgical /Materials, Industrial or Mechanical Engineering preferred
- Minimum of 5 years (preference for more) experience as a manager
- 5 or more years’ experience in steel or pipe making, heat treat or threading preferred
- Good knowledge of steel processes and tubular products including industry specifications including API 5CT, & 5B
- Strong understanding of ISO 9001 (&/or API Q1) quality standards and quality management systems with preference for certification in quality auditing.
- Experience facilitating and solving quality problems (including 8D with RCA) bringing in ideas and buy-in from interdepartmental groups.
- Experience developing, reporting and presenting ideas and projects to various levels of management and customers.
- Demonstrated experience working with customers, inspectors, bargaining unit members and management staff within a production environment
- Experience in statistical data analysis and process analysis
- Mechanical, metallographic, or chemical testing lab experience, and Six-sigma green belt or higher preferred
