
Laboratory Technician

- Prepare water and waste water samples for various Inorganic testing in a timely manner.
- Perform Digestions/Extractions / Filtration on Environmental water, Food and Soil samples.
- Use Summary reports/TAT to plan and organize work to ensure Hold Time and deadlines are met.
- Ensure that sample switch, cross contamination between samples and other material does not occur.
- Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's) to ensure accuracy and quality of work.
- Follow all laboratory safety rules and regulations and promptly report any Near hits/unsafe conditions and/or behaviours.
- Keep their work area clean, neat and organized.
- Contribute to daily and weekly planning.
- Perform daily verification of volumetric devices/Balances and other equipment when needed.
- Recognizes routine and non-routine problems and consults with Group Lead/Supervisor
- Other responsibilities as assigned by their supervisor.
- Minimum of a diploma in Chemical Technology from an approved institution or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Good record keeping skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to accurately follow Standard operating Procedures (SOP's) and instructions.
- Dynamic, energetic, motivated, positive outlook and a "can-do" attitude.
- Internal: Internal: This position involves daily engagement with coworkers to exchange information, and with their supervisor for scheduling, instructions and training
- External: Customer Service, Purchasing, QA, Pre-processing and Main Lab Departments.
- Lab Technicians are expected to perform repetitive analyses and sample preparations using a variety of equipment as required and according to deadlines established by their supervisor.
- This job requires flexible working hours and shift work
- Hazardous materials are handled using established safety procedures and appropriate equipment.
