The School of Communication Sciences and Disorders is one of ten units that make up the Faculty of Health. The School offers nationally accredited Master's degrees in both audiology and speech-language pathology with options for both thesis and project-based degrees and which sees applicants from across Canada and internationally. Reporting to the Administrative Manager, this position provides administrative support to the School of Communication Sciences and Disorders (SCSD) Director, Graduate Coordinator, Administrative Manager, faculty members, sessional lecturers, Chairs for the Admissions Committee and Committee on Studies, and graduate students.
Key Responsibilities
  • Act as a resource person regarding admission procedures and requirements. Provide detailed information and explanations to prospective applicants all year round by phone or email.
  • Manage all SCSD admission files, examine all documentation to ensure procedures are followed and standards are met, calculate admission GPA for all applicants.
  • Maintain admissions data spreadsheet; ensure all data is kept current and accurate; record all admission decisions.
  • Coordinate and prepare timetables for the fall and winter terms; solicit teaching preferences from faculty and sessional lecturers, resolve scheduling conflicts; book rooms through the Campus Booking system, provide information regarding the final timetable to students, faculty, and sessional lecturers.
  • Check all students' course registrations each term; liaise with students to rectify registration errors (e.g., course audits, thesis registration, registration of REGN 9999, etc.); follow up to ensure registration errors have been resolved.
  • Assist the Director, Graduate Coordinator, and Curriculum Committee in planning and processing curriculum changes; update various documents (e.g., course sequences, etc.) to reflect approved curriculum changes.
NoteThe successful applicant will be eligible for hybrid work (combination of in-person work on campus and remote work from within Nova Scotia) as agreed by all parties based on operational requirements and university guidelines.Required Qualifications
  • Business/office/health administration program with approximately two to three years' related experience (or equivalent combination of training and experience).
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently, be highly organized and to prioritize work.
Assets
  • Experience with data entry.
