- Manage the site construction contractors, ensuring alignment with project objectives, schedules, and budgets.
- Ensure all construction activities are executed safely, promoting a strong safety culture and meeting or exceeding organizational safety goals.
- Oversee project construction activities and services to ensure compliance with environmental policies, community relations plans, and regulatory requirements.
- Assist with the preparation of sourcing strategies for major work packages as required.
- Prepare annual budgets in collaboration with Site Management, Package Manager, and Project Controls Department.
- Review and approve project construction schedules, monitoring progress and performance.
- Ensure timely submission of contractor progress reports, cost status updates, and other required documentation to the Project Controls Department.
- Implement remedial or recovery actions as required to address deviations in cost, schedule, quality, or safety.
- Ensure strict compliance with change management processes.
- Coordinate risk assessments with construction contractors, internal stakeholders, and project teams.
- Extract and organize data from plans, engineering reports, and specifications to support contractor and vendor management.
- Collaborate with Project Services to ensure timely and accurate coordination of equipment and material deliveries, including issue management of bulk materials to contractors.
- Periodically review the Construction Management Execution Plan to confirm conformity with project requirements and update as necessary.
- Organize and oversee the maintenance and safe, effective use of tools, equipment, supplies, and inventories.
- Train, guide, and evaluate the performance of direct reports, providing feedback and recommendations for improvement.
- Assist with the compilation of construction documentation for upcoming work packages and actively participate in the Early Contractor Involvement process.
- Identify contractor performance issues and collaborate with Project Controls, the Contracts Department, and other internal stakeholders to resolve them.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory and building code requirements, including federal, state/province, and local regulations.
- Ensure conformity with relevant industry codes of practice and standards.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support project success.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or a Technical Degree in Construction, with appropriate trade qualifications.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to operate a company vehicle under company insurance.
- Minimum of 10 years’ experience in large-scale mining construction site management across all trades.
- Proven experience managing and coordinating employees, contractors, and project logistics.
- Experience managing construction contracts and vendor services contracts.
- Visible field safety leadership with the ability to drive a strong safety and performance culture.
- Knowledge of construction and trade practices.
- Knowledge of project management methodologies and tools used to track cost, schedule, and quality.
- Knowledge of management concepts and industry best practices.
- Experience working effectively with multidisciplinary teams, customers, and in cross-cultural settings.
- Proven track record of developing and maintaining a safe work culture.
- Experience implementing environmental compliance obligations.
- Proficiency with Building Information Management (BIM) systems.
- Experience with Early Contractor Involvement and target price contracts.
- Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills, including empathy, emotional intelligence, and cross-cultural effectiveness; able to achieve consensus and foster alignment collaboratively.
- High standards of professional and ethical conduct.
- Excellent organizational, analytical, and project management skills, with the ability to keep multiple projects and teams on track.
- Self-motivated, adaptable, and able to multitask in timeline-driven environments.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present complex information clearly.
