- Develop, execute, and maintain strategic business development and marketing plans for assigned industry groups, ensuring alignment with firm-wide strategic priorities.
- Conceive, champion, and implement innovative BD initiatives designed to grow client relationships and expand market share. Work closely with lawyers to identify cross-selling opportunities between industries, practice groups, and offices.
- Support and collaborate with Proposals team to manage high-value pitches, RFPs, and panel submissions within target industries. Ensure messaging is tailored to industry-specific client needs and differentiators. Track ROI and provide recommendations for follow-up actions to convert opportunities into engagements. Assist with the collection of representative experience to enable cross-selling.
- Organize regular industry group meetings to help implement strategy, undertake business development-related client and market research as needed, suggest strategies, share best practices, and promote cross-selling of Group services.
- Lead the planning and delivery of client-facing events, conferences, and sponsorships for target industries. Collaborate with Markets colleagues to ensure alignment with branding and strategic objectives.
- Develop and manage processes for capturing, qualifying, and following up on leads generated from events, marketing campaigns, media coverage, and referral networks. Maintain accurate industry-related data in the CRM.
- Establish KPI and provide business development dashboards to each industry group in order to track progress; analyze them and make recommendations for improvement if necessary.
- Lead the preparation of submissions for legal directories and ranking organizations relevant to the assigned industries. Track results and leverage rankings to support BD efforts.
- Identify and provide leadership with respect to enhancing joint sponsorship opportunities undertaken with locally-based organizations and/or referral "partners" that will put Miller Thomson lawyers in front of prospects and continue to build the firm's profile within the business community.
- Partner with other BD Managers, industry leaders, and practice groups to deliver integrated client strategies across sectors and geographies. Share market insights and best practices to enhance overall business development efforts.
- Provide business intelligence and competitive intelligence on various external tools to assist with business planning.
- Assist the practices and individual professionals in the formulation of BD plans; help track plan progress, and report on same to Group leaders.
- Work with the national CRM team to promote its effective use among the groups to achieve their BD goals. This will include providing guidance around how best to organize the information in the system to support their BD initiatives, identify cross practice and cross office opportunities and generally increase the quality and reliability of the information relating to their existing and potential contacts.
- University degree required, with a major in marketing, business or communications preferred.
- Minimum seven (7) years of work experience within a professional services (law, accounting or consulting firm) environment.
- Superior time management and organizational skills, with the ability to proactively problem-solve and manage competing priorities in a demanding, fast-paced environment.
- Good at prioritizing, capable of working under pressure and flexible to meet unusual scheduling requirements.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in English; Bilingualism an asset.
- Ability to contribute to the growth and development of our Markets’ team by collaborating with colleagues at all levels, facilitating teamwork, working independently and identifying opportunities to develop new processes.
- Ability to build strong, collaborative relationships with lawyers, peers and business services, in a proactive and positive manner.

- Organizational abilities with strong attention to detail.
- Travel to Miller Thomson offices or other locations may be required as needed. Background in legal marketing is an asset.
- Working knowledge of Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Familiarity with Aderant, Lotus Notes and CRM databases an asset.
