
Environmental, Health & Safety Specialist

- Conduct EHS compliance inspections, including audits, safety talks, equipment checks (e.g., fire extinguishers, AEDs, first aid kits).
- Respond to incidents, lead investigations, and manage employee safety concerns, including WSIB claims, return to work, and work refusals as needed.
- Deliver EHS training, including new hire orientation, WHMIS, and ongoing education on policies, procedures, and safe work practices. Maintain and update training matrices.
- Manage contractors and external service providers (e.g., drivers, carriers), including ISN compliance and support for project execution.
- Perform risk assessments (e.g., JSAs) and support the implementation of new equipment or systems and collaborate with union representatives where applicable.
- Oversee PPE and uniform ordering and distribution.
- Regulatory Reporting - preparing and submitting reports to regulatory bodies (e.g., Ministry of Labour, Environment Canada), and serving as a point of contact during inspections or audits.
- Post-secondary education in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, or related field.
- Minimum 3 -5 years of experience in EHS roles, preferably in manufacturing or distribution environments.
- Valid driver's license, reliable vehicle and ability to travel between Toronto and Creemore sites (minimum 3 days/week in Toronto, 2 days/week in Creemore).
- Strong knowledge of Ontario health & safety legislation and WSIB processes.
- Experience with incident investigation, risk assessment, and contractor management.
- Working knowledge of Environmental regulations and Health surveillance programs.
- Proficiency in EHS management systems (e.g., GovernIT) and data analysis.
- Excellent communication, organizational, multi-tasking and interpersonal skills.
- Experience leading, managing and analyzing new processes, and machinery for potential safety concerns and conducting job hazard and job safety analyses.
- Ability to assess and propose solutions for hazard elimination and work practice improvements.
- Ability to travel internationally - 5%
- Unionized experience would be considered an asset.
