The position may be based in Halifax, Fredericton, St. John’s, or other regional offices, with flexibility depending on candidate location.We are seeking a Senior practitioner to play a key role in advancing our Mine Water practice in Atlantic Canada, with a focus on surface water and integrated mine water management. This role is suited for a practitioner who leads from the front—driving technical excellence, shaping project outcomes, and mentoring developing staff—while contributing to complex mining projects across the full lifecycle.The successful candidate will lead technical delivery of mine water management services across all phases of mining projects—from environmental assessment and permitting through operations, closure, and long-term monitoring—while influencing project direction and ensuring high-quality, defensible outcomes.Technical Leadership and Project DeliveryLead technical work and provide direction on mine water management across project phases:Environmental assessment and permittingFeasibility and detailed designOperations support and optimizationClosure and post-closure water managementAs a technical leader you will:Lead mine water management strategies across the mine lifecycle, including water balances, contact/non-contact water management, diversions, and storage/treatment systemsLead preparation and senior review of water-related regulatory applications and approvals in Atlantic CanadaDesign and oversee hydrotechnical infrastructure for mining operations, including diversions, sedimentation ponds, tailings water systems, conveyance structures, and erosion and sediment controlsProvide technical direction on hydrologic and hydraulic modelling to support mine design, risk assessment, climate resilience, and regulatory complianceLead the design and interpretation of water quality and quantity monitoring programs for baseline, effects assessment, and regulatory complianceConduct and review water balance assessments, assimilative capacity studies, and receiving environment evaluations to support permitting and operationsProvide technical leadership on mine closure and reclamation, including long-term water management, treatment strategies, drainage design, and post-closure monitoringCollaborate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate water management into mine design and closure planningProvide senior technical review and quality assurance of designs, reports, and permit applicationsEnsure deliverables meet internal quality standards and regulatory expectationsMaintain technical leadership by staying current with evolving regulations, best practices, and innovations in mine water managementMentorship and Team ContributionMentorship is a key component of this role.Provide ongoing technical guidance and oversight to intermediate and junior staffLead by example in technical work, problem-solving, and professional practiceFoster a collaborative team environment focused on technical excellence and continuous improvementSupport the growth of staff through coaching, knowledge sharing, and project-based learningYour Key ResponsibilitiesLead technical delivery of mine water management components for mining projects across Atlantic Canada.Lead development, calibration, and review of integrated water balance models.Direct hydrologic and hydraulic analyses to support design, risk assessment, and permitting.Oversee design and evaluation of water management infrastructure including diversions, ponds, conveyance systems, and drainage networks.Lead preparation and review of regulatory submissions and technical documentation.Provide technical leadership for water monitoring programs and interpretation of results.Contribute to mine closure and reclamation strategies with a focus on long-term water management.Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate water resources into mine design and environmental assessments.Engage directly with clients and regulators to communicate technical findings and recommendations.Ensure adherence to internal quality processes and high standards of project delivery.Promote a strong health and safety culture, particularly for field programs.Your Capabilities and CredentialsStrong expertise in surface water hydrology and mine water managementDemonstrated experience leading development of site-wide water balances and integrated water management strategiesStrong experience with permitting and environmental assessment processes in Atlantic Canada.Advanced proficiency in hydrologic and hydraulic modeling tools (e.g., HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, GoldSim, or similar)Experience leading water quality and quantity monitoring programs and interpreting complex datasetsStrong understanding of hydrotechnical design, including diversion systems, storage ponds, and erosion and sediment controlAbility to critically review technical analyses, identify risks and data gaps, and develop practical, defensible solutionsStrong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to lead technical discussions with clients, regulators, and project teamsProven ability to lead tasks and guide multidisciplinary teamsYour Education and ExperienceBachelor’s degree in Engineering (Civil, Environmental, or related discipline) or Environmental Sciences (Hydrology or related field). A Master’s degree is considered an assetIt is considered as asses to be registered or eligible to register as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) or Professional Geoscientist (P.Geo.) in an Atlantic Canadian provinceTypically 8–12 years of progressive experience in water resources, including demonstrated leadership on mining or similar industrial projectsExperience leading technical components of environmental assessments, design studies, operational support, and closure planningThe Work EnvironmentThis position is primarily office-based with opportunities for fieldwork and site visits across Atlantic Canada. Occasional travel to mine sites may be required, with opportunities to support projects in other regions of Canada.Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time.
