The PositionUnder the general supervision of the Education Manager, the Education Transportation Coordinator is a conscientious driver who safely and efficiently transports and supervises passengers, maintains the bus and associated records, and keeps the bus clean. Demonstrated sound judgment is required to make driving decisions under various road conditions and deal with passengers’ behaviours at times. This is an On-Call position, so the successful candidate would need to have a flexible schedule.The Candidate:
  • Drive regular bus routes as required.
  • Supervise the loading and unloading of passengers.
  • Communicate professionally with students, staff and others; provide general information and respond to inquiries of all passengers.
  • Perform minor first aid and complete the required forms, where needed.
  • From time to time, you may have the opportunity to drive extra runs, so a flexible schedule is required for special activities outside normal working hours.
  • May be required to supervise children or assist elders at some events or outings.
  • Maintain a record of concerns/incidents regarding any problems encountered during the transportation of passengers and notify the supervisor immediately when safe to do so.
  • Ensure that all licenses are kept valid and current, including CPR/First Aid certificates.
  • Any anticipated late delivery or pickup of passengers must be reported to the supervisor or designate, immediately informing the passenger or parent.
  • Ensure only approved passengers are transported to and from their destinations.
  • Observe all rules of the road, including speed limits and safety regulations.
  • Perform pre- and post-bus-trip safety inspections and report any necessary repairs or concerns.
  • Fuel bus. Coordinate vehicle maintenance and repairs.
  • Ensure the cleanliness of the vehicle as needed; sanitize the vehicle as needed after each trip; ensure an adequate supply of face masks is available.
  • Assist elderly and disabled clients into and out of the vehicle.
  • Perform other duties within the scope of the position.
Qualifications, Skills and Abilities:
  • Minimum Grade 10 education; High School Diploma or equivalent desirable.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of driving experience.
  • Knowledge of the community and city is required.
  • Respect for, sensitivity towards, as well as knowledge and understanding of shíshálh culture and traditions.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • High level of initiative and self-direction.
  • Be able to lift 40 lbs. when necessary.
  • Excellent time management skills. Ability to work with little or no supervision
  • Be honest and trustworthy, be respectful. possess cultural awareness and sensitivity, and be flexible.
  • Demonstrate sound work ethics.
  • Clear Vulnerable Sector Check. CPR and First Aid Certificate.
  • Pre-employment physical completed by a family physician or Nurse Practitioner.
