
Respiratory Therapist (RT) - Pulmonary Diagnostics

- Provide respiratory care to assigned clients/patients both by working independently and as a member of an interdisciplinary team.
- Enhance quality of life from the perspective of the client/family.
- Consult, confer and collaborate with other health care providers.
- Demonstrate expertise and leadership in respiratory practice.
- Perform pulmonary functions and technical procedures related to assisting physician with bronchoscopy, set up equipment in labs, administer a variety of tests and monitor client/patient responses.
- Prepare and maintain equipment.
- Maintain and advance clinical competence.
- Participate on designated Hospital committees/teams and approved research projects as assigned.
- Graduation from an accredited Respiratory Therapy Program.
- Successful completion of the Health Professionals Testing Canada Credentialing Exam.
- One years’ recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
- Current certification in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).
- Eligible for membership with the Canadian Society of Respiratory Therapists and BC Society of Respiratory Therapists.
- Broad knowledge of current respiratory theory and practice within a client/family centred model for care.
- Broad knowledge of the BCSRT clinical practice guidelines.
- Demonstrated ability to plan and implement plans of care in relation to client/family priorities.
- Demonstrated ability to assess client responses to care, and to respond appropriately.
- Demonstrated ability to adjust to new and unexpected events.
- Demonstrated ability to deal with conflict situations.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as a member of the interdisciplinary team.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate with and deal effectively with clients and their families, co-workers, physicians, other health care staff and staff of outside agencies.
- Demonstrated ability to provide leadership and work direction.
- Demonstrated ability to perform the duties of the position.
- Demonstrated ability to use the department policy and procedure manual.
- Demonstrated skill in the use of medical equipment and supplies appropriate to the clinical area.
- Demonstrated skill in techniques appropriate to the clinical area.
- Demonstrated physical ability to carry out the duties of the job.
- Basic computer literacy to operate a computerized patient care system.
- Ability to operate related equipment.
- Demonstrated skill in performing CPR.
