  • Preserve the peace
  • Prevent crimes and other offences
  • Provide assistance and encouragement to other persons in crime prevention
  • Assist victims of crime
  • Apprehend criminals and others who may lawfully be taken into custody
  • Lay charges and participate in prosecutions
  • Execute warrants that are to be executed by police officers
  • Perform lawful duties that the chief of police assigns
  • Complete required training
  • Comply with the prescribed code of conduct
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Required QualificationsTo be considered an Experienced Police Constable, candidates must:
  • be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada
  • have successfully completed police constable recruit training at the Ontario Police College, RCMP Depot, or other accredited facility (Officers policing outside of the province of Ontario will be required to complete an OPC exemption exam facilitated by OPC at time of hire)
  • have successfully completed the police constable probationary period at a recognized Canadian police service
In addition, to qualify as an Experienced Police Constable at Kingston Police, candidates must:
  • not currently be the subject of any disciplinary proceedings or any internal or external complaint/investigative proceedings
  • not have any current charges pending before the courts
  • be physically and mentally able to perform the duties of the position
  • have a valid G driver's licence
  • have current Standard First Aid & CPR training
  • be of good moral character
