Apply today to join our team!As a Lab Technologist at VCH you will:
  • Work in a team based environment and under general supervision of the Diagnostic Services Manager or other designated personnel.
  • Perform a variety of routine and/or complex tests utilizing manual procedures and automated instruments within a designated laboratory area.
  • Position is also responsible for functions such as greeting patients, collecting and/or receiving specimens, validating and reporting test results, maintaining instruments and preparing solutions and control agents in accordance with established procedures and safety standards.
  • Participate in departmental training programs in chemistry, hematology and other related areas with a view to learning new/existing test and procedures for use in the Laboratory.
ABOUT BELLA COOLA, BCBella Coola sits in a mountain valley at the head of the North Bentinck Channel, 500 km north of Vancouver, with a population of about 1800 people. The community is at the end of a long, truly magnificent fjord, on the mainland coast of British Columbia. Bella Coola General Hospital has 10 acute bed, 5 long term care beds and a 3 bed emergency department open 24/7, along with a laboratory, diagnostic imaging services, Telehealth, Mental Health, Public Health, Home & Community Support Services. Also within the hospital are a medical clinic and a pharmacy.QualificationsEducation & Experience
  • Certified by the Canadian Society for Medical laboratory Science and basic care training.
Knowledge & Abilities
  • Basic knowledge of laboratory procedures and techniques including quality control.
  • Basic knowledge of other health care disciplines and their role in client care using point of care instrumentation.
  • Demonstrated ability to functions as a team member.
  • Demonstrated ability to work under pressure in a constantly changing environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish workload priorities in collaboration with others.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and in collaboration with others.
  • General knowledge of Trauma Informed Practice and Harm Reduction approaches and Strengths-based care.
  • Demonstrated ability to promote Indigenous Cultural Safety.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide competent and culturally safe care in a variety of settings and with diverse populations.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
  • Skill in the operation of related equipment and in techniques appropriate to the designated areas of the laboratory.
