Your goal in this position is to align with the Ortho/Plastics clinic focus acute hand therapy. Caseload includes post-operative care of hand surgeries and conservative management of hand conditions. You have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and you work effectively with plastic surgeons and other members of the health care team. You adapt to the demand of a constantly changing workload. You are self-motivated, independent and organized in order to maintain a caseload consistent with established standards. This position supports the hospital's academic mandate by advancing care through teaching and learning and/or transforming care through research and innovation. This position contributes to the shared responsibility of ensuring health and safety policies are followed to provide for a healthy environment for patients, staff, physicians, volunteers and families.On a practical level, you will
- Evaluate and assess clinical findings in order to identify functional strengths and weaknesses
- Develop and implement appropriate Occupational Therapy hand therapy programs for the patient's condition and adapt, change, or terminate these as necessary
- Be proficient in fabrication of thermoplastic splints
- Able to communicate effectively with physicians, staff, patients, families, and community agencies
- Able to supervise occupational therapy students, interns, and volunteers
- Able to self-evaluate to maintain a high standard of care and determine need for professional development
- As required by COTO: a degree or diploma in Occupational Therapy from a recognized school
- Registration with the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario
- Experience with hand therapy is essential
