Starting at $34.45/hourJoin the Medicine Hat Police Service as a Police Clerk 1, where your attention to detail and professionalism will directly support front-line policing and community safety. In this role, you'll play a critical part in managing police records, preparing legal documentation, and ensuring information is processed accurately and securely across specialized police systems. This role operates on a 24/7 rotating schedule aligned with police operations and requires a high degree of flexibility. Candidate must be available for rotating shifts, including days, evenings, overnights, weekends, and statutory holidays. Initial training is approximately 3 months, beginning with full-time daytime hours before transitioning to shift work.We're a team that believes how we work is just as important as the work we do. You'll be:
  • Reviewing and processing police files, ensuring all information is complete and accurate
  • Entering, updating, and maintaining records within systems such as RMS and CPIC
  • Preparing court-ready documentation, including charge files and bail-related materials
  • Transcribing and uploading police reports and related documentation
  • Collaborating with officers and internal teams to ensure timely information flow
  • Handling sensitive and confidential information with a high degree of care and discretion
How you'll own it
  • Perform detailed data entry, transcription, and file management for police records
  • Prepare legal and court-related documents with a high degree of accuracy
  • Maintain and update information across multiple police databases and systems
  • Ensure compliance with policies related to confidentiality and information security
  • Provide professional and responsive service to internal partners and external inquiries
  • Support overall administrative functions within Investigations & Support Services
What you bring
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and document preparation
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities
  • Sound judgment and discretion when handling sensitive and confidential information
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and the ability to learn specialized police systems
  • A collaborative mindset with the ability to work independently and within a team
Qualifications
  • Completion of a one (1) year Office Technology certificate from a recognized post-secondary institution
  • Minimum two (2) years of experience working with the public in sensitive situations
  • Minimum two (2) years of administrative office experience, preferably with exposure to legal processes
  • At least one (1) year of experience in a computerized billing or accounting environment would be an asset
  • Current Standard First Aid/CPR and AED certification (or ability to obtain)
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
  • Must pass a full Police Service security clearance as outlined in the Medicine Hat Police Service Policy and Procedures, including a polygraph examination.
