- Support projects that utilize InnoTech Alberta's manual and automated welding equipment and auxiliary components.
- Organize, monitor, and maintain experiments or portions of experiments; design simple experiments; support pilot scale experiments and the development of testing protocols.
- Build and/or modify equipment for projects and for material testing applications.
- Evaluate alternative industrial equipment to support projects.
- Act as a technologist to support internal stakeholder requirements.
- Manage required test protocols to ensure timely and high-quality delivery of work.
- Identify products and resources required to complete experimental projects.
- Research equipment and methods for use in an experiment.
- Assist in monitoring budget, expenses, and time allocations.
- Review and assist in preparing moderately complex project proposals and cost quotations.
- Monitor, report and present progress, data, and results of experiments to the project leader.
- Maintain lab organization and cleanliness (general housekeeping).
- Handle, store and dispose of chemical and waste materials.
- Actively contribute to conducting hazard assessments, self-safety and cross-audit safety inspections, creating safe work procedures and ensuring that the workplace remain free of safety hazards.
- Communicate procedures, processes and results to internal and external clients; market technical expertise and technical services internally and externally.
- Assist with engagement and follow-up for new and existing clients or stakeholders.
- Technologist diploma in Advanced Welding Technology, Welding Engineering Technology, or similar.
- Minimum 2 years of welding experience; lesser experience will be considered when combined with education.
- Direct experience in welding in a research or industrial setting is considered an asset.
- Excellent creative problem-solving skills and ability to apply technical solutions from multiple industries and sectors to move projects forward.
- Demonstrated ability to be self-motivated and proactive.
- Willingness for hands-on work and ability to perform physically demanding tasks in support of welding projects.
- Strong organization skills and attention to detail that reflects the ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks, competing agendas and client demands.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook)
- Excellent communication (written and verbal) skills as well as the ability to write technical data reports.
- Class 5 Drivers License
