- Build strong, empathetic, and professional relationships with individuals, families, peers, service providers, and community partners while representing The Royal with professionalism.
- Establish rapport and provide one‑to‑one peer support to individuals of diverse cultural and economic backgrounds, helping them pursue recovery, self‑determination, empowerment, and personal goals.
- Draw on lived experience with mental health, substance use, and forensic issues to provide insight, advocacy support, and perspective-sharing in a way that aligns with peer support values.
- Support individuals in navigating services, advocating for themselves, and accessing community resources such as housing, employment, education, recreation, transportation, and health services.
- Attend case conferences at the individual’s request and ensure their perspective is represented in program design, planning, curriculum development, policy discussions, and related activities.
- Facilitate or co‑facilitate group presentations, recovery education, and peer support groups, including sharing personal recovery experiences where appropriate.
- Coordinate and deliver peer service activities both within The Royal and in the community.
- Maintain ethical, professional conduct aligned with MHCC Guidelines, The Royal’s policies, procedures, and applicable legislation (e.g., Mental Health Act).
- Participate actively in staff meetings, supervision, community of practice sessions, and team initiatives.
- Complete documentation accurately and on time; organize files and contribute to program evaluation, quality improvement, and research activities.
- Engage in ongoing training, education, and professional development to maintain knowledge of recovery principles, peer support practices, and sector best practices.
- Remain current through literature review, workshops, seminars, and collaboration with colleagues and community partners.
- Lived experience with mental health challenges concurrent mental health and substance use challenges, as well as experience with forensic units or involvement in the criminal justice system.
- Strong time‑management skills with the ability to prioritize and complete tasks effectively.
- Demonstrated proficiency in written and verbal communication, critical thinking, organization, and goal setting.
- Excellent interpersonal abilities, including strong active and reflective listening skills.
- Self‑motivated with the capacity to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
- Effective conflict resolution skills.
- Proficiency with computers and common software applications.
- Current certification as a Peer Support Worker, or willingness to obtain certification within two years if not already completed.
- Certification and/or experience in providing Wellness Recovery Action Plan (WRAP) services is considered an asset.
- English level A- is mandatory in oral expression, oral comprehension, reading comprehension and written expression. Bilingual (English/French) is considered an asset.
