- Provide guidance to management on the administration of the sick leave plan, including medical leave of absence, referral for LTD consideration, vocational rehabilitation, Worker's Compensation, etc.
- Provide advice, guidance and services in areas of; organizational structure, job evaluation, compensation, benefits and payroll administration, including related policies and procedures;
- Access HR databases to report on trends and emerging issues. Gather statistics, complete studies, analyze and prepare reports on a variety of HR issues or procedures.
- Contribute to continuous improvement and best practices to influence human resources strategies and be a driving force to support HR's Service Delivery Model;
- Responsible for developing or providing management with advice and services, staff planning, placement, promotion, performance management issues;
- Keep up to date on training activities and available programs;
- Initiate, develop, and deliver training courses;
- Develop for approval and carry out work plans for programs/processes in specialized areas;
- University Degree or Post Secondary Education in Human Resources
- 3+ years of experience as a HR Consultant, HR Advisor or HR Generalist. Sound knowledge of human resources principles, and processes and ability to provide advice and operational support on a wide range of HR matters.
- Labour/employee relations experience in a unionized environment will be an asset
- Results orientated and the ability to work in a fast-paced changing environment while effectively managing and adapting to multiple changing priorities.
- Ability to communicate effectively, possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, and strong facilitation, negotiation, influencing and presentation skills. Individuals must have strong problem-solving skills to address and overcome current and future challenges.
- Commitment to high standards of procedural safety and regulatory compliance.
- Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook).
- Willingness to travel locally between Durham region locations, as required.
- CHRL designation or Masters Degree in Human Resources is considered an asset
