- Collaborates with the resident, their family, Occupational Therapist (OT), Physiotherapist (PT), and the other members of the interdisciplinary team in the development of an Individualized Service Plan
- Prepares and administers treatments using standard therapeutic methods and techniques assigned by the PT and OT
- Administers and assists residents with therapeutic intervention programs as developed by the PT and OT, such as range of motion, progressive resistive and stretching, ADLs
- Documents according to policy and procedures (e.g Daily Resident Care Record, resident progress notes, incident reporting, PPCA, Critical Incidents etc.)
- Observes and monitors residents' response during treatment and responds accordingly to ensure safety; note conditions and progress for reporting to PT/OT
- Communicates appropriately and effectively, through verbal, nonverbal, written and electronic means, with the residents, Substitute Decision Makers, OT, PT, other members of the Wellness Team and interdisciplinary team
- Explain treatment to residents as instructed
- Assists the Occupational Therapist with specialized equipment trials, such as set-up of equipment as directed, monitoring resident's positioning and reporting feedback
- Cleans and sterilizes area and equipment as required; monitors and maintains general housekeeping of the department
- Maintains equipment inventory and assists with department audits
- Additional duties as required/assigned
- Diploma in Occupational Therapy/Physiotherapy Assistant from an approved college OR bachelor's degree in Kinesiology.
- Current certification as a PTA or OTA with the applicable provincial college or governing body or be enrolled in the certification program prior to commencement of the position
- Minimum 1-year previous experience working in a long-term care environment.
