Your Opportunity:The Royal Alexandra Hospital is located in downtown Edmonton and is a fast paced acute care urban hospital providing care to patient's from a variety of backgrounds, diagnoses and experiences. The Chaplain - Spiritual Health Practitioner (SCP) is accountable for providing, consultation, expertise, and direct service delivery in all matters related to spiritual health care in the context of health and care. The RAH Spiritual care health team reports to the Allied Health manager and consists of a small group of dedicated and caring individuals providing front line care to patients, families and staff. The SCP advances an evidence based spiritual health care approach inclusive of patients/families, staff, physicians, and volunteers which is integrated into interprofessional collaborative team practice. Given the variety of spiritual, religious, cultural, and philosophical beliefs that co-exist, the SCP encourages respect for individual patient beliefs within the health care team, and also facilitates and supports the involvement of religious community visitors (rcvs). As a health care professional, the SCP is skilled in providing existential, spiritual, and religious patient care across beliefs, cultural perspectives, and practices and is therefore distinguished from religious community visitors whose patient care is circumscribed by the perspectives and practices of particular religious/spiritual communitiesDescription:As a Spiritual Health Practitioner, you will provide patient-centered, strength-based spiritual care to patients and their families. Your role involves responding to emotional and psychospiritual needs across diverse spiritual, existential and religious beliefs, cultural perspectives, and practices. You will employ a range of spiritual care interventions appropriate to the practice setting, including screening, assessments, spiritually integrated counselling, psychospiritual therapy, end-of-life spiritual care, religious and non-religious rituals, and professional consultations. In addition, you will facilitate spiritual group therapy sessions to address spiritual distress and promote spiritual well-being. You will also provide spiritual care to staff, physicians and volunteers, individually or in groups, to foster resilience and support overall well-being within the organization.

Required Qualifications:Master¿s degree in theology and/or spirituality/religion or a clinically related field. 2nd Advanced Level, Clinical Psychospiritual Education. Additional Required Qualifications:Masters in Theology and/or Spirituality/Religion or a clinically related field with confirmation of educational equivalency obtained from the Academic Assessment Committee of the Canadian Association for Spiritual Care (CASC/ACSS). 2nd Advanced Level, Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) with commitment toward certification as a spiritual care practitioner, (CASC) within three years. Enhanced professional skills to foster interdisciplinary capacity for spiritual screening, history taking, and spiritual care support. Appropriate training in provision of ethic consults. The ability to work on call evenings, nights and weekends as part of a rotation between the Royal Alexandra hospital and the University of Alberta Hospital. Active in developing and implementing strategies to resolve issues and problems and creating safe space. Ability to respect the privacy of others and in accordance with Health Information Act (HIA), Freedom of Information and Privacy (FOIP):in effect the incumbent shall comply with AHS's Information Privacy and Information Security policies. Demonstrate skills in reflective and collaborative practice, active listening, negotiation, advocacy, and conflict resolution. Demonstrate knowledge of community resources and ability to establish external partnerships.
