Every day we apply our expertise, creativity, and passion to propel communities into the future—join us!Your OpportunityAn opportunity exists in Stantec's Ottawa, ON office for a highly motivated Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our multidisciplinary team. In this role you will be responsible for the design and execution of projects ranging in size and complexity, with a focus on civic, industrial, healthcare, commercial and educational projects. The successful candidate will also be responsible for providing technical mentorship to junior and intermediate mechanical staff, developing and maintaining new and existing clients, coordinating skillsets with other offices and disciplines, and satisfying customer requirements.Your Key ResponsibilitiesFoster communication within the team, hosting weekly workload/staff welfare/feedback discussions and manage team workload.Communicate information and decisions from leadership discussions and Business Centre (BC) leadership meetings with staff.Act as an advocate for the team both internally and externally. Listen and respond to team member concerns and communicate these to BC leadership when necessary. Work with BC leadership and the discipline leadership in finding and implementing solutions and ideas that will benefit the team.Foster and promote respect for others and for the company within the team.Actively mentor, review technical delivery and performance, and motivate staff to perform at their best.Perform peer reviews of engineering calculations, drawings and specifications within the mechanical team.Work in collaboration with other Team Leaders in developing tools and techniques for the execution of projects.Maintain and grow current business and client relationships.Prepare proposals, manage project budgets and scopes of work, schedules, and communications for both large and small multi-disciplinary projects.Coordinate design work with other disciplines, other offices, and other project team members.Remain up to date with current team and industry technical knowledge.Prepare and oversee engineering designs from conceptual design, through tender to construction.Work with team members in determining viable solutions for design issues.Your Key CapabilitiesAwareness of project budgets, contracting strategies, scheduling tender document preparation and tender support and evaluation.Effective communication skills and ability to work independently, and as part of a multidiscipline group.Strong leadership, time management, project management, communication and team building skills are required.Demonstrated technical writing skills; capable of writing reports, proposals, letters, and technical specifications.Proven success in developing new business with existing clients and maintaining positive relationships.Ability to bring a wide variety of stakeholders together to meet tight deadlines.Strong verbal communication and soft skills.Familiarity with industry trends and industry leaders in the Ontario region.Education and ExperienceBachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) registration in the province of Ontario.
