- Undertaking geotechnical and construction quality control field testing and inspections (i.e. compaction, concrete, rebar, etc.) at various construction projects;
- Undertaking logging of geotechnical drilling operations;
- Assisting senior staff with various tasks required for multi-disciplinary projects including collection, preparation and testing of samples;
- Setting up, performing tests and logging results in the field and laboratory;
- Preparing factual reports, summaries, data sheets or graphs for interpretation of test results by the supervisor;
- Consistently executing safe work practices and work plans while completing field, laboratory and office work;
- Generating and assisting with preparation of deliverable documentation such as technical reports, summaries, data sheets, graphs, proposals and qualification packages;
- Participating in project management, site and staff planning meetings;
- Handling difficult situations with tact and diplomacy to maintain positive working relationships with all internal and external contacts;
- Maintaining records of health and safety information, calibration certificates, equipment manuals and applicable standards;
- Traveling out of town for extended periods of time to remote areas to fulfill field work responsibilities as required.
- Technical Diploma in a field related to Civil Engineering or Geotechnical Engineering;
- Experience in one or all of Soil and Aggregate, Asphalt and Laboratory experience;
- More than 3 years of experience in highway materials, construction materials sampling and testing and inspection;
- CSA, CCIL or ACI certification (asset);
- Ability to handle samples up to 25kg of materials regularly;
- Demonstrated interest and sensitivity towards occupational health and safety.
