- Standards of Conduct: Adherence to company or institutional policies & procedures; and to act in accordance with local laws and regulations such as the BC Motor Vehicle Act; and to act in accordance with the scope of training & certification.
- Patrols: Conduct regular patrols of the campus including the interior and exterior of buildings.
- Communication: Communicate with SFU dispatch as required and keep the GardaWorld Site Supervisor and CPS Duty Supervisor apprised of any concerns.
- Emergency & Incident Response: Act promptly in case of emergencies (e.g., fire, medical, or security incidents).
- First Aid and CPR: Administer first aid as required until a higher level of care assumes conduct.
- Maintain a Visible Presence: Remain visible at assigned posts and be cognizant of surroundings.
- Check Security Systems: Ensure that alarms, locks, and other security systems are functioning properly.
- Conduct Audits & Inspections: Inspect safety-related equipment to ensure they are in good working order, including but not limited to AEDs, fire extinguishers, and naloxone cabinets.
- Enforce Rules and Regulations: Ensure that all students, faculty, staff, and non-community members adhere to university policy and procedure where applicable.
- Prevent Criminal Activity: Monitor activities to prevent theft, vandalism, or unauthorized access to restricted areas.
- Document Shift Activities: Keep detailed logs of daily activities, incidents, and any unusual occurrences using Security notebooks and CPS's Record Management System.
- Secure Entry Points: Lock and unlock doors as appropriate for SFU's hours of operation.
- Equipment Checks: Ensure equipment is in good working order, including but not limited to radios, keys/fobs, and first aid equipment.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Legal authorization to work in Canada
- A valid BC Security Workers License
- A valid Basic Security Training Certificate
- A valid Intermediate Occupational First Aid Certificate (OFA 2)
- A valid Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) (Canada) Certificate - an asset
- A valid safeTALK Suicide Prevention Certificate - an asset
- Management of Aggressive Behaviour (MOAB) training - an asset
- A valid BC Driver's License Class 5 preferred
- A clean Driver's Abstract
- Incident Command System Level 100 (ICS 100) - an asset
- Mobility & Endurance: Stand, walk, and remain on foot patrol for extended periods of time, including climbing stairs, traversing inclines, and covering uneven terrain.
- Weather Conditions: Sometimes work outdoors in all seasonal and inclement weather, including rain, snow, heat, and cold.
- Lifting & Carrying: Safely lift, carry, and move objects as required for operational duties, such as moving barricades, safety equipment, or assisting in emergency response.
- Emergency Response: Perform physical activities under potentially stressful and urgent conditions, including providing physical assistance to others, or evacuating individuals from hazardous areas.
- Environmental Hazards: Work in environments with potential exposure to noise, dust, and other occupational hazards, using appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) when required.
- Shift Flexibility: Work irregular hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays, as part of rotating shifts.
