Under the direction of the Vice President, Property Treaty Department, the Underwriter is primarily responsible for the underwriting of Property Treaty business for the market for which Munich Reinsurance Company of Canada (MROC) is mandated. You would also responsible for providing pricing support and analysis to the property underwriting team.In accordance with established guidelines, terms and agreements and after any required referrals, you would then be authorized to accept /decline Property treaty business (new and renewal) in line with UW authority.Need more details? Underwriting
  • You will underwrite Property Treaty business in accordance with MROC's and Group-wide guidelines and philosophy and within the limits authorized by the Head of Department.
  • You will evaluate submissions, reviews treaty contracts, assesses and prices business and perform all necessary underwriting functions in order to recommend acceptance or declination and / or offer alternative terms and conditions on treaties offered to MROC.
  • You will provide actuarial pricing, cat modelling and other analysis to support the property treaty business.
  • You will develop expertise on Company pricing tools, including the development and maintenance of local tools as required.
  • You will refer all accounts outside of the deemed level of authority and/or expertise of underwriting for approval to the Head of Department.
  • You will perform and assist in the performance of audits of ceding companies.
  • You will negotiate and participate in negotiations within the company and with clients, in conjunction with Client Management.
  • You will ensure that fast and efficient service is provided to our clients.
  • You will be involved in special project assignments as required.
Marketing
  • You will act as Client Team Leader when requested, as well as actively participating in other client teams.
  • You will participate in the planning and development strategies for existing clients as well as new prospects.
  • You will complete and/or update CM and write reports after each visit when necessary.
  • You will participate in client contact and development; maintains contact with the industry in general by attending industry functions on a regular basis. You will also promote MROC products, services and facilities and builds business relationships with cedents and provide information and advice to cedents on matters of his/her competence.
  • You will monitor market conditions and the activities of MROC's existing and potential cedents and reinsurance competitors and reports to Management as needed.
Other
  • You will be responsible for keeping the Department Head informed of their activities.
  • You will stay current with all applicable UW guidelines as well as keep up to date with on line treaty system changes.
  • You will also prepare reports as may be required.
So are YOU our next Actuarial Analyst & Underwriter? You are if…
  • You have a Bachelors' Degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics or equivalent.
  • You have Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) / Fellow Chartered Insurance Professional (FCIP) designations or the equivalent "on-the-job" education or training.
  • You regularly attend seminars or workshops related to underwriting issues, and maintain knowledge through industry publications.
  • You ideally have up to 5-10 years of primary insurance underwriting experience as a minimum or equivalent (i.e. facultative reinsurance experience and up to 3-4 years of reinsurance treaty experience).
  • Your experience in commercial ratemaking would be an asset.
  • You have successfully passed a minimum of 3 actuarial exams.
  • You have good communication, organizational, and time management skills with a demonstrated attention to detail and an eye for accuracy.
  • You have exceptional analytical, negotiating and investigative competencies as well as a high degree of drive, self-motivation, continuing development and proven ability to work independently.
  • You are organized with strong commitment to meeting deadlines and superior attention to detail.
  • Strong computer ability and working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • You have exceptional computer skills including Microsoft Office; strong business and general insurance acumen.
  • You have a high degree of flexibility and adaptability to changing environment with an ability to work independently and function well under pressure
  • You have demonstrated fluency in English; fluency in French and or German (oral and written) is an asset.
